I bought the fan favorite set when it came out and was disappointed in the quality of the vinyl scratch toy.
I want to buy one from you one day.

Anyways, good job~

I've made and sold a number of them actually. That particular pony was gifted to Sibsy.

I don't understand why they just can't release them with plastic hair..... They are no where near being close to fallowing the old school ponies with brush-able hair. Those days are over....

The brushable ponies have been around since the early 80's... While the line has gotten a lot of attention thanks to the show and the work of everyone involved, Hasbro is actually making a really good business decision to stick to their core product. It takes a lot of time to develop toys-- so give them time. They're starting to do some great things with the new blind-bag ponies, so I'm sure that they'll keep exploring new and exciting ways to part us from our money.

Yeah, I understand that these have been around for years and are obviously targeted to little girls that want to brushie brushie but at least release the last 3 ponies with plastic hair. >.< Also, I live In Canada no one out here carries the blind bags or exclusives just the basic main MLP: FIM products like the castles and single brushable ponies or carts and such. It's so hard to find MLP: FIM Merch out here in Canada.
Well you have done an amazing job with mass producing all these ponies with plastic hair! I want to guy a couple! >.<
I've managed to get Twilight sparkle & Fluttershy's brushable hair styled perfectly. >.<
Do you sell them on eBay?

I don't use eBay-- they charge way too many fees. if someone pays with paypal (which eBay owns) they're literally taking 1 of every 8 dollars someone pays. So it helps me keep the prices down by *not* using them.
I do occasionally open orders through e-mail. I do that by making an announcement here on dA (journal entry with prices and ordering info) and then I get swamped with e-mails for about a day-- and when I feel overwhelmed by all that, I close orders... Usually orders are open for only about a day before I have to close them.
LOL! I'm wont exactly call what I'm doing "mass-producing"... I actually had problems at the con because people assumed they were mass-produced and not hand-crafted.

Well, yes. eBay is not very good to sell for people who don't have much money or don't sell much or do not have a business. I don't like it my self. I gave up on that because of the fees yes. Ah, Ok well I'll have to wait and look out for when you are willing to sell. ^^
As of making so many, that's hard work! I would not expect any one by them self to sculpt by hand that many so perfect in such a short amount of time! What you did with this process is still amazing and allot of hard work!
Keep up the brilliant work!

Looking at the hasbro scratch and Squirrel's mods put together reminds me of the Horatio meme.
If you know what I mean. :3

Well, the one they showed us is a prototype, so she may go through another change before she's released...hopefully. I feel the glasses could be a little better...That would be awesome if they made a way to have them separated from her face and to still be wearable like you did. (That would give them extra cool points in my book.)
I'm still surprised (and happy) that they bothered to make her and other characters; like Nightmare Moon. Regardless of what the final products ends up looking like, I am going to buy the MESS outta those exclusives!
As for your custom, wonderful job as always.

Just Rarity-- she's the only white Unicorn out there and I'll avoid a full-body repaint any day I can.

I always do a full repaint lol. But Cheerilee is the only one I've found with her leg up. I'd love to find more like that!

Cherry Pie, one of the new regular sized ponies, comes with the alt pose. Otherwise you have to get one of the sets-- Rarity with her carriage, AJ with her truck (or was it her barn?), Twilight with Princess Celestia... I think that's it though...

Nsomniotic In reply to OtakuSquirrel [2012-04-12 06:50:05 +0000 UTC]
Ah, that explains why then. With the exception of sets that contain a pile of ponies, I stick to whatever is least expensive on Amazon. It means full repaints, but I'm cheap so I'd rather do that then spend the extra money. I have a commission for a Vinyl Scratch right now, which I can only hope looks a tenth as good as yours!

Instead of a cease and desist, Hasbro should just stop thinking about this monstrosity and throw their production costs at you to make the awesome versions available everywhere!

Well you should do! With your skill at creating the sculpts and the might of Hasbro to produce them it would be a good collaboration. Us in the UK would still get bucked in the flank though seeing as we only get a fraction of the pony merch over here.

LOL! Model and blue prints? It's nothing so technical. Take clay, shape, bake, carve, add more clay, repeat until done.

StudioPNI In reply to OtakuSquirrel [2012-04-09 14:26:40 +0000 UTC]
true but you had to come up with the design of her hair before hand didnt you? plus it looked molded not made of clay

OtakuSquirrel In reply to StudioPNI [2012-04-09 16:33:16 +0000 UTC]
LOL!! Well, I did conceptualize it in my head quite a bit. And technically, it is molded-- it's a resin cast of my sculpt. What I did was basically old-school toy design... no computers-- just make a product that looks good.
