"Your frame of reference seems very skewed towards wanting Hasbro to produce basically a pony line that is drastically different to it's current line and to be drastically cheaper than fan made things."
-.- I was saying that Hasbro should CONSIDER this EARLIER, and also that plastic mane is cheaper than hair (lowers the pony's price), and also easier to make show accurate manestyles (which is what we want), mostly because solid material is easier to deal with than hair at production, for both workers and custommakers. It's faster and more practical.
And NO WAY, not the blind bag ponies. Must say I'm terribly unfond of those, so are most people I know: they're small in size and not that great. Besides, Trixie is not a light-blue Rarity, and those are way harder to costumize. And even if you succeed, it doesn't look that greater than before.

"Also I'm basing this on corporation logic, and saying how feasible some of your suggestions are. Toys getting approved and making them cheap enough to produce from prototype to retail product is a horribly long process. Even now the DJ P0N-3 toy shown is being released in August."
Well, you're not really going anywhere, so better late than never. I never said I want them now, I said that they SHOULD TRY this, and that if they've done this BEFORE, they'd be making much more money. We can wait for quality, but not for resolutions. While I'm going for the pony-accurate thing, you're going for the opposite point, probably. I still think Hasbro should give it a bigger go, and that we can do something about this. Just thinking, if we (or the fandom?) can make Derpy canon, why not better looking toys? Man, you talk like it's impossible to talk to Hasbro, or even that it's impossible for them to make something good aside from sets. You know, is it hard for them to make this ? Is it wrong for us to ask for it? =/ If we don't make a move, then we'll not be a target audience, dude.

Plastic manes = multiple molds. The issues you'll have with blind bags is the same if we do molded hairstyles for the playful pony size. It'll be more expensive to produce multiple hair molds as opposed to just using doll hair, plus you can style it in different ways as opposed to a Blue Rarity being Trixie.

I myself customize ponies. I have 90 pony customs. You keep acting like I know nothing, hate show accurate ponies or that I haven't had any experience with how toy companies work from a collector's point of view. That I haven't seen amazing prototypes turn into cheapened retail copies. Thing is, playline toys will never be properly be for collectors. It will be for girls first and foremost and I honestly believe that you are so utterly involved in the community you can not see the big picture.

Bronies aren't that big of a fanbase nor have they been around for long relatively in comparison to other fandoms or communities. How hard is that to understand.

You don't have to have a degree to understand that a business isn't going to exclusively cater to a periphery demographic that (from their perspective) could be the result of a temporary craze.
Hell, they're already aiming a few items at this new audience with their new white versions of Celestia, the background ponies and Nightmare Moon toys. Plus the Derpy prototype, if that ever gets produced properly.
They don't owe you anything, ultimately they're run by profits which they mainly get from people buying the toys for young girls.

Really? So why bothered making it better? Also, if you're saying "it's not that simple to reach Hasbro" you could have done it sooner...
And they owe something to the temporary craze. More than you think. Otherwise their business wouldn't be as profitable.

Your version of "better" is not the same as Hasbro's :I

Ahahaha, you're serious? Wow, yeah, like Hasbro was NOT a giant company before the bronies came down from heaven and lifted them up to greatness xD we have increased their profits a bit on ONE toyline, but they are still a massive company.

You're adorable. You think you know things.

No worries! I do actually like the brushable ponies-- and I have a whole set of untouched ponies squirreled away where I wont accidentally use them for baits. Originally all I wanted was to finish out the sculpted hair set that included Pinkie, Twilight and Applejack... but those actually were really bad all things considered and I decided to try to redo them anyway... and everything grew out of that.

I don't mind the recolors too much-- so long as they keep it as a character driven line-- which means making toys of the characters we want to see. Up until now, they had been recycling older characters from the last couple (pre G4) lines, with some name-recognition... so I can't blame them for that. But the announcement that they're going to make background pony toys is awesome and shows that they're getting with the program (literally-- the TV program)! In addition to that, I'm now actually really hopeful that they're going to start introducing more poses and sculpts. Cadance and Shining Armor are two great examples... now if they can expand on that, and do some more new/alt poses, that would really be a great step in a super cool direction. Not just for more modding fodder, but just to give the line some more life and pizzazz.

What I wont forgive them for is removing the bangs from certain ponies. We had our variants between Rarity/Twilight and Applejack/Pinkie Pie because one had bangs and the other didn't. Hasbro saved a few bucks, but they nixed some of the scarce variety that they were offering.

I understand, and I see things that way, too (sort of). My actual complaint is Hasbro itself, because it could be done better. MUCH better. Their CLIENTS are a bigger range than they think, you know. Also, the whole recycling of BAD toys is only showing how greedy they are for no reasonable motive... xP
Fortunately, we have plenty of ways to make brushable Twilight look like her nerd self, and custom is fun enough to entretain us. But just so you know, I showed your work to my friends and they like yours more than the original.

they won't send it after all its just the same as making the sculpts for the mane 6. surprise surprise yours is much better, typical Hasbro quality doesn't beat fan made again lol.

LOL! I'm just paranoid because a friend got a cease and desist from a different company-- and actually got sued for intellectual property theft by them. It wasn't Hasbro, but Hasbro technically could if they wanted...

They would have a lot to issue with the thousands of custom pony makers that sell them and the plushy makers too.

Hasbro is now a major media corporation that happens to make toys, sorta, kinda, if they can be bothered.

Dude, people have been making customs for ponies since the toys started selling simply because they want them to be show-accurate. Isn't that the point of your kits to begin with?

They only issue will come from those of use that have no talent painting eyes. I feel I can recolor Rarity's just fine, but wiping those glasses off and painting the eyes from scratch is not something I can do. She'd have to wear her glasses FOREVER!

I wouldn't know about that they said that this figure was a Toys 'R' Us exclusive and there would be only a few issued. remember that rare in the brony community means expensive. I wouldn't doubt if some non brony went there and bought up all the exclusive toys in his entire state every shipment and sold them on eBay for over $200 each like it was a plushy. The fact they will not even sell them on their own website makes it very hard to get one other than to work for Toys 'R' Us and "barrow" one off a new shipment before it hits the floor.

OtakuSquirrel In reply to Dragnmastralex [2012-04-06 05:35:03 +0000 UTC]

Really? I knew the set would be for Toys R Us, but a limited release?!??! I sure hope not.
I seem to be the guy in my area buying up all the ponies... but they always restock and I try to not go overboard after I get my fix.

Dragnmastralex In reply to OtakuSquirrel [2012-04-06 13:30:18 +0000 UTC]

yup they stated it was exclusive to Toys R Us and that they would only release them to a certain time.

That's what made me mad because I knew it would drive the price up for them cause of the demand.
