It annoys me when people on TV take a couple of steps away from someone, then talk as if that person can't hear them, or discuss matters of high security with the office doors wide open. If you are going to say something sensitive, make DAMN SURE the person isn't around.
The last time I talked about someone behind their back, I was amazed to discover he was quite literally just behind MY back. It's a good thing I had a policy of only saying NICE things about people!

awesome story part, as for your comment, I learned that if I keep a conversational tone I can talk about anyone and no matter how close anyone is they don't hear a thing, it's when the key words "I gotta tell you something" or something similar that people tend to focus on a conversation, most of the time we filter out backround noise...whispering gets other's attention as well.

but opening the conversation with "can I speak to you alone" then taking two steps away to do it (ala TV shows) is bound to attract listeners!
