Description having purchased DragThing [link] lately i'm totally blown away by all its capabilities and potential.

for these two screenshots i was using ~StefanKa 's SimpleOne-Dragthing Theme here and then set it to fully transparent so that all the icons and shortcuts would now be displayed on my wallpaper alterations, and which now mimic the actual dock/bar backgrounds.

in other words: all docks are part of the wallpaper i made. and dare i say it, i just love it.

RESOURCES | TOP- Embedded Bowtie by ~RyanGe
- Wood Pane as part of the Icon Container Pack by *artbees (MOD)
RESOURCES | BOTTOM- Boptie by Darkbop
INSPIRATION | BOTH- Modern Nature Dark Version by *sedART (the dock part at the bottom of the preview)
- the manage/organize view in the IconBox app, as it can be seen here
MENUBAR | - click here and read how to make it black
(also running iStat menus)

well, what else i can say?
it's nice working on this desktop, i can tell ya.

anything else you wanna know?
just ask.

hahaha.. yeah, it's possible. but as i once told you: i often have the same wallpaper and setup for many weeks, so that i can make some occasional tweaks and adjustments. so, basically this is the result of a few weeks work and nothing that i could have come up with in a matter of just a few hours.

thanks a whole lot for your great and kind feedback and the fav, bro!

So that's why we're not seeing any new CAD skins from you - too busy making love to your iMac...

Like the dock setup in screen #2...

OtisBee In reply to PoulNyrup [2011-05-11 23:17:47 +0000 UTC]

haha.. thanks DUDE!!

yeah well, what can i say in excuse? maybe that creating a CAD skin is a lot more timeconsuming than to quickly make a few desktop/wallpaper adjustments, which i've done in merely a few hours.

but you're right, i spend way more time in mac osx than i do in win7, which btw. is still rather new to me and i often miss the good old winXP days where i knew my "turf". i purchased the win7 together with that iMac and in many ways it's still like a total stranger to me (unlike the mac).

nah, you're not buying it, do you?
win7.. winXP.. what difference does it make, if CAD skins can be used on either one of them?
yeah, you got me on this one.

lame excuses.. that's all i can provide.
..and some hope that i will hopefully create some cool CAD skins once i'll have more time to relax and focus on nothing but CAD again.

Great looking desktop. I'm required to get a mac for my major in graphic design, so that'll be fun learning to customize a new OS.

You should make a post saying all the necessary tools needed for customizing a mac, since I know none. haha.

OtisBee In reply to GamerWorld14 [2011-05-11 23:05:28 +0000 UTC]

thanks, mate!

yeah well, not that i want to anticipate too much, but you better prepare yourself for the somewhat unusual experience once you'd make the switch to mac. in many ways it's like they always say: mac is more intuitive and user friendly and definitely quite appealing on the eye. but then again the mac developers have made it really difficult for us customizers to really change the main OSX look & feel. i'm not saying that it's impossible, but unlike windows where you have way more apps and tools to change the entire system's appearance, it's sure getting trickier when it comes to mac.

drop me a line if you've made the switch and i'll gladly guide you through the first steps.

GamerWorld14 In reply to OtisBee [2011-05-11 23:16:52 +0000 UTC]

I'll definitely give you a note once I make the switch. I'm sure it is a lot different and a giant step. It's too bad Rainmeter isn't available on a mac, that would be great!

OtisBee In reply to GamerWorld14 [2011-05-11 23:22:18 +0000 UTC]

well, if you'll purchase an intel driven mac, then you can always install windows there as well (dual boot or via VM), so that you won't miss a thing and can still do and enjoy the things you're used to.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GamerWorld14 In reply to OtisBee [2011-05-12 00:12:03 +0000 UTC]

Yep, I've already got bootcamp on my mind as an item to purchase once I get the mac.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to GamerWorld14 [2011-05-12 08:38:24 +0000 UTC]

well, you might be glad to hear then, that bootcamp is already a system ingredient in mac osx, so no need to purchase.
all you need is a windows install disc, which supposedly you already own.

did not know you have a mac, deos that mean you are not skinning windows anymore?, nice screen,
by the way, where can i get that wallpaper?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to UbbeD [2011-05-11 22:31:28 +0000 UTC]

thanks, buddy!

yeah, i have a mac since august last year, but one of the first things i installed was win7 in a virtual machine, so i can switch whenever i want. but more importantly, so that i can still maintain and pursue my hobby, which is of course making skins for CD Art Display. in general i can say that customizing windows is a whole lot easier than mac. for windows there's a countless amount of apps that let you create a completely new and different look & feel, whereas for mac it can be really tricky to even get only a few steps away from the default (yet nice) snow leopard appearance.

just take a look at the windows skins & themes here on deviantART and then compare that to what's available for mac.

so, i guess i will stick to having both operating systems installed, so that i can enjoy the good parts from either one of the two worlds.

..as for the wallpaper:
i made it myself and only have a 2560x1440 version ready, which i can send over if you like.

also, do you want the wall with the apple logo?
..and without the dock at the bottom, that was right, was it?

whoa.. there's a fonzarelli plz???????????
gee, that's some blast from the past.
never really watched the happy days, but i sure remember the thumbed-up "heyyyyy!".

okay, but let's be serious now..
i guess, i wouldn't have posted this screenshot, if i haven't had a hint of an idea that it might not only be me who'd like the setup.
so, yeah.. i'm pretty amazed by the outcome and just had to show it to someone.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jacques-Noir In reply to OtisBee [2011-05-12 11:00:14 +0000 UTC]

Haha, of course

BTW, i was an 80's kid, so as happy days was on TV then - when we're kids we watch any old crap lol XD Fonzie always comes to mind when i think of cool - it's what TV does, makes us associate - generally brainwashes us!

I really do not watch TV now, unless i'm in someone else's house. Gee i'm so fun huh!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to Jacques-Noir [2011-06-10 10:19:16 +0000 UTC]

oh, you were an 80's kid? just like me. i was in my teens back then.
i remember watching the incredible hulk, heart to heart or alf in those days.
and you're right, the TV really does make us associate.

sometimes, me and my colleagues actually communicate only via tv phrases and quotes we acquired through literal episodes of our childhood.

today, my tv habits have come down to only the tv series i occasionally download and then watch when i want to.
and the reality-soap shit we have running at work and where there's no escape from it.
the latter is kind of fun tho, because laughing about it with the guys is really forming our group-sense in some strange and peculiar way.
as odd as it may sound, but i wouldn't want to miss that certain type of fun.

You're right, and there's nothing that can distract you too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to R3V4N [2011-05-11 21:59:22 +0000 UTC]

absolutely

besides.. whenever i use one of the very cool and great looking photo-wallpapers out there, then before long i quickly grow tired on them and then switch to a new one after a week or two. but not with those minimalistic walls. i can stick to them for many months and they never really become boring.

but since i have a dual-monitor setup i often have a photo wallpaper on my second display and the more minimalistic ones on my main screen where i do most of the work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R3V4N In reply to OtisBee [2011-05-12 08:56:25 +0000 UTC]

Ah, dual screens
But I got the same thing, the more complex wallpaper is the faster I get tired of it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to R3V4N [2011-05-12 09:27:12 +0000 UTC]

yes.. and with the complex walls it seems as if i'm always on a constant hunt for the one perfect wallpaper and that nothing can really satisfy me for very long. so, in a way, using the rather minimalistic walls isn't only relaxing or un-distracting when just looking at them, but also because there isn't this strange urge to seek for something new over and over again anymore.

but hey.. i guess that's exactly what you just said.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

R3V4N In reply to OtisBee [2011-05-12 10:36:23 +0000 UTC]

Haha, exactly, even if wallpaper is really unique it won't satisfy for a long time, it'll always get boring after time
I guess you just don't notice minimalistic wallpapers that much, which is better

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to R3V4N [2011-06-10 10:28:47 +0000 UTC]

yeah.. and this makes me think about te actual wallpapers we have attached to our walls in our real life flats, appartments, condos and houses. we often fancy just a certain color or a decent pattern there. something minimalistic, so to speak. the times when we used giant sized landscape photo tapestry are (luckily) long gone.

afterall i guess it's the same with all the successful product designs. it's the clean, simple and minimalistic stuff that's somehow build to last and which will remain to be "contemporary" in the ages to come.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R3V4N In reply to OtisBee [2011-06-10 17:37:18 +0000 UTC]

Yea haha, I wouldn't stand a huge photo on my wall Although I like to have photos at all, or others works, they are nice composition, focal points so to say
And true, I always say the best logo is one which you can draw on paper, even if you're not an artist
Because it's simple and catchy and mind somehow don't overload when remembering that kind of things. Exactly like it's relaxed surrounded by plain wallpapers
