People can always remove the Google ads and all other YouTube ads with different adblockers but they can't fight against the copyrights. It is better to make a the music for your video yourself or use 100% copyright free music. I have used really much copyrighted material on my YouTube Poops and I don't have complained when they have removed my videos because I know that I didn't have the permission to use those music or videos. I know that here in dA is many people that think 'art theft is a crime' and they don't want that someone uses their deviations without permission but they still think that it is legal to use copyrighted material when they are making YouTube videos.

Well, I don't agree with the lack of capital letters in this. It's a good way to make your message seem less serious. But anyways, while Youtube/Google may make money off the ads, the artist doesn't. And several of us use HOSTS.txt, Adblock, Noscript, or other way to remove ads, so no money there. It won't kill you to buy a song on iTunes, or even find a different download source if you really don't want to pay. Deviantart doesn't allow copyrighted music on its videos or flashes, so I don't see why Youtube should be allowed to dodge copyright either.

well, with the money they have gotten on vevo and on google ads on youtube they put a part of it in huge record labels like universal, who pays the artists.

Yeah, but I don't see why, just because a few sites have ads, it means you shouldn't pay when you want to hear a song. In fact, ads don't make much money unless you click on them, and how many people click on Google Ads? Lots of artists have Youtube accounts to post their choice songs. CDs cost money, iTunes cost money, concert tickets cost money, and piracy is illegal, so they're clearly looking for compensation. Equipment, booking, traveling, studio time, and auto-tune aren't free.

And I made under $20k a year in my household. It doesn't mean we should get handouts and charity. I'm not saying I support most of the musicians currently (if you can even call them musicians), but it's still effort. $22 million on a large band's salary isn't a lot, for how many Google indirectly sponsors.

true true.

XPator [2011-04-07 19:12:36 +0000 UTC]

It's because of "legal issues". Before Google took Youtube over, there was no "cash" to sue over for, which is why music wasn't blocked, or managed by a third party group that's legally entitled to showcase commercial tunes on Youtube. Since google took over, it was worthwile for most music studios and such to sue over, since Google DOES make money.

Still doesn't excuse the fact that since Google took over, there's no "freedom" to speak of on Youtube anymore.

True. It's also publicity for them. I became a fan of many bands that I heard on youtube videos.

I have adblock plus so I don't see any ads
