How bad ?

So what's the BH stand for ?
What format do you download your writings to DA with. I can't get Microsoft Word to do the trick...

I'd definately take a look if you took other pictures of that cup.

BH stands for "Big House" and is a reference to a book I want to write one day.

I don't download. I copy and paste into the text box. You have to choose text, instead of file.

Ah,
that last bit helps...
Do they accept erotica on here ? I mean it's tasteful and imaginative ,but it is erotica.
I'll see about getting other pictures of the chalice to you. I can't send images in a note can I ?

Thank you,
There's a big part of me that's very very old,and another part that embraces all new technologies in the forging and fabrication of my art. These pieces illustrate that contrast I think...

Actually the parts for the cup were left overs from laser cutting. I have access to an industrial facility and they let me dumpster dive! Oh the joy!
I never know what cool shapes Ill find...

Wow! Nice. It's good to have a place to go for scraps and such!

I've developed an interesting relationship with about 6 industrial facilities. Each time I make something artistic using their scrap,I photograph it and make a poster or print to give back to them, which they invariably put up in the office...This way they remember me and sort of put me in a "different" category in their mind. Eventually,if I court them effectively ,with respect and interest in what they do, they end up calling me when something odd or beautiful is generated in their scrap.

Seems to be a lot of active pagans there - Beautiful design. How do you cut your pieces - with plasmacutter?

ou8nrtist2 In reply to Ugrik [2006-09-24 19:17:59 +0000 UTC]

Yes,I've noticed that too...This county is quite tolerant of MANY things(blessed be). I've been tapped many times to make ritual items for them(and other denominations) which is an honor really. I try my damnedest not to disappoint. I start by doing research (which I love) then integrate what I've learned in my designs. I have such a penchant for artifacts and ancient metalwork that I've collected quite a library for reference (mostly Celtic).
I'll use ANY method I can contrive to accomplish my fabrication goals. My old man was quite brilliant with accessing low technology solutions to create High Art and conveying these "tricks" to me. I have taken my fathers training and added the current modern high tech advancements,so I have a good repetoire of what CAN be done but it's always the use of both ancient and new that creates something truly unique. The handwork with the machined. I could talk about this for hours, but suffice it to say that plasma cutting, laser cutting carbon arc cutting, flame cutting, abrasive cutting, and now waterjet cutting ,are all techniques I use on a regular basis. The parts for the cup were laser cut.

You have to walk before you can run my friend. I'm more than twice your age and have been doing commissioned work for 20 years. My clients ,through their commissions are the ones paying for all my uses of advanced technology. You have a great headstart, brilliant ideas and aesthetics. All you need in my humble opinion is a refinement of your craft. Upgrading your tools in incremental stages will help to accomplish this. But it takes GREAT discipline. The life of an artist is NOT an easy one . You have to be your own slave driver, force yourself to work sometimes when you don't want to or don't feel it. Still, there's no greater freedom that I know of in this realm...
What I did for 6 years was to take 5% of EVERY paycheck and put it in an account for tools. This is how I started my studio. Also Ugrik, if you can get a compressor and use air tools it will cut your work time on projects in half. I hope this is giving you encouragement rather than depressing you. No one ever said it would be easy. If you know this ahead of time it will encourage resourcefulness and a willingness to rise to the challenge. Make the work be your payback, the joy of creation, the power of MANIFESTATION. That way when someone actually pulls out their wallet to buy something from you ,it's like icing on the cake...
