The City of Mountain View bought the piece in 1993 and I was quite shocked and pleasantly surprised that in spite of the fact that it's a relatively anatomically accurate nude they wanted it anyway...

I've been waiting,what on earth took you so long...LOL
I'm desperate to know how I can enamel on stainless steel.
I can see that it would be the sweetest addition to some of my jewelry pieces,but I'm working mostly in stainless.
Have you done this process before?
I know it can be done .
The stainless piece needs a special acid etch surface treatment first I believe...

Actually, I have only enameled a few silver-coated steel blanks, but it is perfectly possible to enamel steel, as commercial pots would indicate. You have to match the coeffients of expantion for the glass & metal. The manufacturer has expansion charts & suggestions for the various types of stainless steel from the 300 series & 400 series. You should know the exact type of steel (i.e. 330 SS or 431 SS) & that will tell you the coeffiency of expansion. I think that you just oxidize the metal then fire the enamel over the oxidation - the exact opposite of copper or silver.

I know I'll usually be dealing with SS 304 (foodgrade) unless there are other analysis that are better suited for the enamel process...
It's going to take some research and probably the purchase of a kiln,but I'm excited at the prospects.
Rene Laliques's Art Nouveau pieces have always been an inspiration to me,especially his use of mixed materials both precious and non precious together...

It was hard for me to pick a piece of metalwork to comment on, they are all so attractive. I am currently working as a welder making custom fireplace enclosures, and I think I may recognize those discs...are they remnants from the punched holes made by a metalworking machine?
I have made a few attempts to utilize them, on my lunch hour, mostly, and I will post some eventually. I guess the main bullett point I'm trying to make here is the meticulousness required to run arcs and contours...I can appreciate and admire the talent and patience required. Nice work...

Yes they are punch parts...
and each one is hand formed with hammer and anvil before being welded to it's neighbor.

Yep, that's my work. There was a big sculpture competition in Mountain View in 92 for the dedication of the Performing Arts Center. They bought 4 or 5 pieces and mine was one.

The City of Mountain View bought the piece in 1992 and it sits somewhere in their new award winning performance art center where the city council chambers are located. I'm working on another one currently in bronze that's about halfway done and taking molds from a new model for a full lifesize standing piece.
