You know, it was so long ago that I honestly couldn't tell you specifically, but I do remember it being liquid. And since I never dyed my hair, it was probably something I found lying around my parents' or friends' houses or something insanely cheap. I would try whatever you have - you can always dilute it a bunch, as I remember doing.

I love it, and the materials you used. It reminds me of something I have done before...except mine was not as great as yours

what do you use to get such clear images of your paintings, everytime i try to take a picture with a standard digital camera it distorts the colors and doesn't portray the emotion of the painting. any suggestion?

Overachiever22 In reply to thelazerlife [2008-01-30 19:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Try using different settings on your camera, sometimes there is one specifically for artwork. Try using natural light, definitely not flash. And if neither of those work, sometimes it's best to use photoshop to adjust the lighting and/or colors.

Overachiever22 In reply to ELaiNeLight [2007-07-03 01:16:21 +0000 UTC]

Oh not at all.

Well a number of things. Mostly just wear-and-tear from bring brought to shows (not that I participate in a lot, I just had a few school-purpose events) and from sitting around my house. The materials on it like the coffee and the black acrylic rub off really easily for some reason. I have to touch it up again for it to be anywhere near back to normal.

I love your take on mixed media, it's almost a culinary masterpiece as well as a visual one. I usually want to see pieces live because I know no photograph can really do the textures and richness of a painting any justice, but I'm afraid if I saw (or smelled) this one live, I'd try to eat it!

Hi There!
You have just earned yourself an O.D.D. feature ! congrats!
Todays' theme was "For The Love of Traditional Art" !
ODDS (oibyrd's daily deviations) are to honor the sometimes overlooked artists of dA that I personally think deserve some exposure (and ALSO, to show off people who I think are undeniably talented in their own genre of art, REGARDLESS of their #'s of fav's or pageviews. I like what I like and sometimes artwork isn't featured in the regular DDs because it's popular all on it's own It's a shame, but the admins are only trying to be fair! ). Please click the link below to see your work featured and to view other featured artists . If you prefer not to be a featured artist, just send me a note and I will remove you from the list. Cheers! xoxo Sandi oxo

Interesting blending of media... I'm glad you chose to go well off the beaten path. It's inspiration to be so experimental... and the bonus: it turned out amazingly well.

For the woodstain I slathered it on with a drybrush and blended it into the charcoal with my fingers and smaller paint brushes, and for the most part, everything else was normally placed on the canvas with brushes.

I like this. There is something slightly peculiar about the eyes, that I can't quite put my finger on though. Still, a nice piece and derserving of praise if for not other reason thatn the highly eclectic media choices.

Your welcome...by the way, do you know a good way of getting a complete black background on a pencil drawing so It doesnt look unnormal?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Overachiever22 In reply to ibetufold [2006-03-08 03:09:11 +0000 UTC]

hmmm. you mean by just using pencil? other than just drawing very neatly and pressing hard to fill the entire background--no.. but you could maybe go over your drawing in charcoal and then use charcoal for the black background because that would be a lot black and easier. you could even just go over the dark places with charcoal so its not just that dark black in the background, to make it unified.

ibetufold In reply to Overachiever22 [2006-03-08 12:04:23 +0000 UTC]

Ok, thanks for your tips! Im a newbie at drawing stuff. But I think charcoal is another type of pencil, much bigger, right? I also wondering about if there maybe are some kind of black spray I could use. But that would maybe be bad to the black spots on the face...
