I would have to say this is a really stunning piece. The contrast from the skin and background is done well, it makes me feel like im in a dream of some sort. The eyes are very beautiful as well, they POP! Kinda reminds me of the chick from MirrorsEdge dont you think? I dont know but I thinks she needs frekles or maybe a tattoo somewhere * though i have no Idea where* I still think this is quite a wonderful piece of FINE art and there isnt anything I can say that would make it suck. Very clean I might add too.... Nice job!

I totally agree with your suggestion of putting some tattoo or freckles. The face is surely too clean and simple.
In my defense (if it is possible) I'd like to say I started this piece as a simple portrait, with no back light. Later I decided to play with the lights,
which weakened the impact of the subtle value strokes I was working earlier.
If you know what I mean.

The first thing that definitely stands out in this creation is the lighting. - It's a nice and powerful touch to the entire image. While the background lighting sort of gives off this movie scene-like feel to it; I do believe that the lighting on the hair is just a tad bit extreme, maybe darken it up just a little; otherwise I do like the fact that you added in the light effect on the hair, instead of totally leaving it out. It gives this sort of shadowed value to the girl's face and hair.
The light faintly reminds me of an explosion, like something was just set off behind her and she's walking away from it all in pride. However, then there's no movement in her hair to show any wind from the impact. (Just a thought to let you play around with)
The glow that the artist has created on the skin looks entirely natural however, and it is certainly soothing to the eye along with the deep blues and blacks that the artist has chosen.
The blank-blackness above the searing light is also a nice touch, it gives the picture a sort of neutral feel instead of this intensiveness that it blatantly gives off.
I do absolutely love the technique that the artist used for the skin color as well. Everything is smooth and blends in well, while still showing definite line qualities.
The red tinted slightly plump and shiny lips are a nice added touch, instead of leaving them be a few solid colors. It brings even more depth into the picture and makes the women seem more realistic.
Lastly her eyes, full of blue power. The shape and position is lovely; although for some reason they give off the vibe that she may be an oriental figure. If that was the artist's intent.
Her eyebrows are strong and show confidence while her nose is placed perfectly in the center of her beauty.
Overall this is an outstanding "practice" picture.

About the color:
I used an overlay layer to add color to a black and white portrait. This was the first time I did this way and I must admit I liked a lot. It was easy to work only with black and white most of the time and then add color over the values. I'll probably do that more often.
And yes, I tried to make her a little bit oriental, even with the blue eyes.

Yeah, values are nice; I normally work in black and white so I know what you mean by that

Photoshop is not very difficult if you keep it simple.
You just have to buy a couple of cheap tutorials and they will teach you all that you need to know to do good stuff.
By the way, you have to post more of your stuff.
One thing I like about your drawings is that you have a very strong style.

Ahhh! I wish that I could! Heh, I really haven't had the time to make any more arts lately and it saddens me. Finals are coming up and I'm pinching every second that I have. -Hah, aw thank you, that's nice to hear =]
As soon as I do make a new art piece I'll be sure to put it up though. I do have a few that I'm waiting to get up here (one's still being graded) and I'm still drawing another. So stay tuned, I'll get some work up eventually, I promise!

Ótima prática se me perguntar. Recomendo a todos que estudem as técnicas dele. São intuitivas e eficazes.
Nesse dia que eu fiz isso, tinha comprado mais de 6 videos dele. Fiz mais de 20 desenhos em uma semana depois desse. Não postei todos porque seria repetitivo, mas me ajudaram muito.

Pois é. Posso falar o mesmo. Mas recomendo uma abordagem ainda mais exagerada, mesmo que seja uma vez só.
Tente repetir integralmente o processo dele. Isso mesmo, fazendo o mesmo desenho que ele.
Veja uma etapa, pause, repita vc mesmo. Até o final! Como os desenhos dele não são brutalmente complexos não vai demorar muito.
Posso afirmar que é excelente pra assimilar a técnica do cara. Depois disso vc naturalmente incorpora no seu estilo o que te é útil e abandona o que não é.
Fica a dica.

I have a very extensive SciFi/Fantasy universe. Every now and then, a side-character has a backstory that I don't have time to fit into the novels. So I write comics!
The one I have in mind is 12 issues long (although it desperately needs to be rewritten). I'm thinking about just drawing it myself, but I'm lazy and don't like my own art enough.
But I think you have enough to do at the moment, don't ya?
