Description
As it turns out, I had a LOT of trouble getting her to look right! So over the course of many months, I changed things here and there, made her yukata more accurate, and so and so forth, and eventually, this was what I had decided upon. The problem, as it seems with the original January 2018 one, was that while Lilac looked great from that pose, that was really all that design was meant for. I was not satisfied, because I wanted something that could be drawn with a full range of emotions, natural poses, and everything else you'd need out of a character. The others were fine (so there won't be a version 2 of the others), just her.
I've made her head and hairdo rounder, her horns are not as long, and her ponytail tendril things are longer and thinner. Her face is more expressive, with bigger eyes. This pose is not as dynamic as before, but there is a lot more I can do with this design than the original one. (And between then and now, I did a bit of research into what this type of kimono looks like, how they're worn, and what the sleeves look like when the arms are in various positions.) I think overall though, she's wound up looking even more mature than Version 1.
For the record, this was actually completed before the Galaxy Trail Mix video, but I felt it was too close to Halloween when I had finished, so I intended to put this up in early November. Didn't realize that video would suddenly pop up. Well, I guess it's still early November as of the time I'm typing this. I did watch it, however.
The reason I hadn't put anything up in over a year, also, was that I was moving on to Spade Drawn from Memory, but I got kind of stuck trying to get him to look right. No matter what, something just looked off about him, and I didn't like it. I'll keep trying.
Eventually, I'll draw these characters on-model to prove that I am capable of drawing characters not from memory.
