Gods the genius of this series. It would have been so easy, after hearing and seeing everything the Director had done throughout to label him as the typical obsessive bad guy... but they didn't. They took the trope and turned it on its head.Β

The man isn't a monster... he's just a man who made choices that had monstrous consequences.Β

When I saw this scene for the first time, most of my hatred towards Director Church pretty much disappeared. He wasn't a monster or a big bad villain anymore. He was simply a broken man that couldn't let go. Is it wrong that I felt sorry for him in the end?

No. I believe that's the point. You see and hear all these horrors the Director carried out, but in that one moment you see his eyes, you remember his last message to the Chairman. That there are no punishments that others can inflict on you for the horrors you inflict on yourself. And seeing now how he drove himself mad, lost the one he loved, and destroyed his daughter; all you see is a broken man that you can't hate. Just pity.

Still my favorite episode. Ever. I watched this episode over and over trying to rationalize everything he ever did, and itΒ DOES make sense. It's lso the best episode as it induces a legitimate emotional response.

God, I remember this scene...I felt truly sympathetic and somewhat supportive of the horrible man, at the time...

I was crying at this bit and when I looked at his eyes, I was like, "No. Way."
I had to explain to my friends that he was her father, wow.

the worst part of this...i (Carter Mallek) was the one who killed Allison, by beating her to death while interrogating her.

Everything slammed into place here. The Director was Carolina's father and Allison (Agent Texas) was her mother. Allison died in war and then The Director went and got obsessed with bringing back his wife and ignored his child which made Carolina become obsessed with being Number 1 so he would pay attention to her.

From the start of his appearances in RvB i disliked him and hated him for what he did, but seeing thi i couldn't hate him, i pitied him.

In the end, ther wasn't a monster to be found just a sad, broken old man who, in his own words, was "filled more with memories than hope".

You know guys I was shocked when Church and Carolina have both the same eyecolor that means there's a family relationship between each other right? church and Carolina has a daughter and father relationship.

Did Church Marry Allison before Alison died.

Allison: commissioned officer of the ORION Project (SPARTAN-I Series supersoldiers of the UNSC), had a relationship with fellow ONI officer Leonard Church, which culminated in the birth of their child Carolina; a "SPARTAN 1.1" as the term was called at the time. It was only later that Allison had to go and join the UNSC again, only to die at Harvest; leaving her husband and daughter to continue on without her.
