Description
THANK YOU so much for my first DD! That was a nice surprise.
Thank you AFineWar for the suggestion, and alltheoriginalnames for the feature!
I very much appreciate it!
I usually make it a point to thank everyone individually, because I never take interest in my work - by anyone - for granted, but in this case it's just too much! Every single comment and is truly appreciated though! It means a lot.
The beginning of colonization efforts somewhere at the outer rim of our known universe. The ship designs are based in part on real NASA concepts, just as the Helios colony vessel.
COMPOSITION: Textured environment (starfield) and digital painting (planets, nebulae), composed in Photoshop. My work. Scene and lighting setup in Lightwave with final composition of all elements in Photoshop (including all FX).
MESHED: Helios Colony Vessel & Ark Ship by Jason Tinsley, Heavy Shuttle & X33 Shuttle by Kenny Mitchell.
Original size: 4500x1600.
Comments and critique welcome.
Thank you very much to TreeClimber for the valuable WIP input and suggestions!

Lovely piece that gels both in composition (models, lighting and background) and in it's 'weight'. You could believe that this is a genuine image of a colonization project in progress.
Very nicely done

Thank you! When I came accross the model of the Helios design I just had to use it. It's one of those things. Despite my affinity for sci-fi, I would love to see the start of colonization of other planets, even the moon or Mars in my life time still.

That would be a bonus if they didn't. Otherwise it will turn into paradise lost. And thank you!

I'm waiting for the dawn of that age. I'll let myself get freezed so I can be reconstructed the day it happens

...
Unless you wake up in a post-apocalypse - not to be insulting or anything - aren't you going to be unskilled for a great number of things?
Unless they Shanghai your corpsicle for colonization. Stick your nero-pattern into an AI for a colony ship while recycling your DNA into an artificial embryo system to "grow" colonist.

Well, the thing with post-apocalypses is: You probably won't wake up, cause there is no one to support the freezing of your body as well as reconstructing and revivng it afterwards.

Probably being the key word.
Though if some warlord w/access to future tech turns around and recycles your remains for use in their war-machines it likely would be you "reawakened" consciousness which wakes up. Just a copy.

Yeah, if getting frozen was an option, I'd have perhaps considered it myself.

Well, it is not an option for me, as well. It is far too expensive, and the propability of me getting thawed within the next 10 years is at 90%. There has been practically no frozen body yet that hasn't thawded in the last 10 years.

Plus, given the highly profit oriented business structures of today, I wouldn't trust anyone with my body. Only perhaps if I was terminally ill and wouldn't have to worry about money, but in that case I could build my own cryo facility...

Exactly
If I needn't worry about money, i would just do the whole colonisation of foreign planets myself anyways

Well, I guess that's the main problem nowadays. The people that have the money are too preoccupied with getting more an more each day that they have long forgotten what visions may have been around at one time or another.

Rasgonras In reply to overseer [2012-03-21 23:24:23 +0000 UTC]
Had they ever had such vision, they would have lacked the determination to get that money. Mostly, of course.

Yeah. Plus, if you have a lot of money, sadly.. most of the time you don't care about anything else. Money corrupts. Most people anyway.

I'd say that it depends on the easily corrupted personality in the first place to develop the drive to acquire a lot of money.

Aka politicians or people with power. You need that kind of manipulative 'corruptiveness' to even want that sort of thing...

Indeed.
Personally, I think the fate of those is the worse known to mankind. In the end, their life's have been even more vain than the average life of anyone else.
