Description
Chancellor Gowron's flag ship, the IKS Bortas, departing Qo'nos (at least my interpretation of it). Perhaps they are headed for battle, or to Ty'Gokor so that Gowron may award the Order of the Bat'leth to deserving Klingon warriors. . . ?
COMPOSITION: Planet textures created by me in Photoshop. Planet mesh created by me, and composed into 3D models in Lightwave. Texture and atmospheric settings also my work, including all background elements. Lighting rig, composite for BoP and Vor'Cha, as well as some retexturing done by me. Scene entirely rendered in Lightwave, with postwork in Photoshop.
WORKFLOW:
MESHES: Vor'Cha-class battle cruiser by D. Bates, conversion by Mattc, B’Rel-class Bird of Prey by Fabio Passaro, Qo’nos + background composite, nebula, texture changes, composition & FX by me.

That's impressive. The Vor'Cha ships are awesome, and I've always loved the K'Vort Birds of Prey.
I noticed you used B'Rel models for the Birds of Prey. I never fully understood the difference between B'Rel and K'Vort, but I think the B'Rel were smaller and from TOS time period. The K'Vort were larger and from TNG time period. I think?
Anyway, you've done a really good job!

Thanks. As for the models, it's no different than various older and newer variants of Starfleet ships. TNG still had Constellation, Miranda, Oberth and Excelsior class ships in service (and a ton more, I'm sure). Same surely goes for other races. You can apply upgrades without throwing the space frame away. TNG, relying on physical models still, also had some issues with size. In some scenes it looked like the Bird of Prey was the same size nearly as a Vor'Cha or Galaxy class ship, which is absolutely wrong, not matter what sub-class they were. They are about the size of the Defiant-class... so yeah, subtle differences perhaps, but basically they are the same ship class.

Yep. Very much so the Klingon Empire. I realize that with the new Star Wars movie out (plan to see it Saturday), that's somewhat ambiguous.

Fair enough; one never knows what happens when JJ Abrams 're-envisions' a franchise.

Yeah, well, we'll see. He definitely has talent, but I'm certainly not impressed with the entire timeline change he decided upon fo the whole franchise. All just to make it more 'mass market attractive'. There is a reason certain science-fiction shows aren't so easily marketable. That their charm. I read that the newest Star Trek movie script was toned down, too, for "being too Trek". I don't even know what that means. That's like making a Batman movie, but not having Batman in it, because "it's too Batman".

Apparently there can be when marketing to the masses is concerned, and you don't just want to reach a certain demographic.
