Description
UPDATE: After working on textures for another piece, I decided to update this one with those new textures (mainly for the engines of each ship).
Also changed were some additional lighting elements, and some additions were made to the background.
The title is a play on the submission date. The overall idea was to show some non-canon starship designs.
This is an update of a version I did back in 2011. dief25 indirectly challenged me to do an updated render. I was also curious about my own improvements over the years.
This is the original render. The new one is based on the same scene file with additions:
Here is a link to the actual scene setup , just to show it was actually setup and rendered in one scene.
COMPOSITION: Rendered entirely in Lightwave with minimal postwork in Photoshop by me. Texture modifications, Dawnstar mesh polygon fix, nebula mesh, background, composition & FX by me.
MESHES: Sentinel by Jonathan Wasik, Bradbury by Kenny Mitchell, Interceptor by Stuart Baldwin & Dave Keeshan, Dawnstar by Dennis Bailey with polgyon fix along the deflector by me.

Ooh, I love this scene! You see a bunch of nice designs that you don't see very often, namely the Sentinel, Bradbury, and Argus. I would've also liked to see the Ronin here as well. She too is a great, classic fan design that doesn't see enough use IMO.

Thanks. Yeah, I had the Ronin in there originally, but it kinda did not fit the flow. I thought I do this one to show off those classes, since I don't like combining canon/non-canon stuff. Glad you like it!

Makes me smile - and think about First Contact. Both good things.

Thank you! Glad it can have that effect.

Really cool What class are the others that are with the Dawnstar class?

Thank you. They are all non-canon designs; that's why I stuck them together (I don't like to mix both). They are left to right: Sentinel, Interceptor (background), Bradbury (foreground) and then Dawnstar.

What class vessel is the the mid front? Never seen bussardcollectors on the main hull like that..

None of these are canon designs used in the show. I believe it's called "Bradbury-class", and it was built by Kenny Mitchell. This literally is a picture not containing any ships ever seen in the shows/movies. That's one reason I did it, since I don't like to mix canon and non-canon elements.
Technically it doesn't really make sense to have the nacelles integrated, and based on the available, established technical information it is in fact undesirable, since the engines generate radiation, and keeping them too close to the hull would be dangerous. That was the original idea when the Trek designs were conceived. But, it certainly makes for a unique design!

Simply put, to redefine 'the meaning of the expression final frontier.' First thing which popped into my head. The Federation has explored the Alpha Quadrant and now for the rest of the galaxy.

Very nice angle. I hadn't looked at it from that point of view, but sure, why not?!

Awesome! I'm hardly knowledgeable about these things, but it looks great! And your improvements are obvious!

Thank you; and that's OK. To me it's all in the right lighting and attention to detail.
