Description Devious Technology has built a Firefox only plugin that allows deviants to easily report unruly ads -- audio ads, pop-ups, or attempted malware/viruses. Once installed, a small, blue "!" (exclamation point) icon will appear in the top right of every advertisement on the site. If you encounter a bad ad during your deviantART travels, click "!," select "Report This Ad," and follow the simple instructions on the screen. No advanced technical know-how is required.

Very smooth. I guess it's my screen's resolution that cuts of half of the icon, but it seems to work fine.

Pity auto ads like to hide at the bottom of pages on another tab. :'D

I usually browse with several tabs open. When ad audio starts playing, it could be from any tab, not just the one I'm looking at at the time (sometimes I get audio from ads on multiple tabs at once!), and they're short, so they're usually over and replaced with another ad before I can find them. Is there anything that can help me with that?

I can help you with that, install Adblock Plus: adblockplus.org It blocks all ads everywhere 8D

I encountered a whole site redirect today when I was just on my messages site doing nothing! I didnΒ΄t click anything nor do I have any malware like worms, trojans or rootkits on my system.
It even happened after blocking every ad related entry in noscript. WoT and MacAfee SiteAdvisor said that some sites from rubiconproject could contain and share malicious code. Noscript canΒ΄t be bad...

www(dot)javainstall(dot)org/to… That is the site. The download there is surely a virus or something nasty. How do I report events and redirects like that?

ewm In reply to magnakron [2013-10-22 20:45:50 +0000 UTC]

Make sure to read over our Status Post about Bad ads and then make a report to the Help Desk on this so we can get this sorted right away! All reports concerning bad ads help us ensure that these sneaky ads get eliminated.

One problem is I just have the site name and screenshots from it, no idea how and why the redirect happened, tried to find anything on the site mentioned in my comment.
My HTML knowledge is zero, there is no clue in which ad that redirect is implemented. Just found on that site via noscript and Javasript console another embedded link that
shares malicious downloads.Β
I heard that invisible pixels with embedded code on a siteΒ  are able to do that and other things.

I will report what I have, Sitename, where it happened, maybe even their Ip or network it is hosted in, these informations are just on third party sites like McAfee SiteAdvisor.

Even if you don't have all the information some information is better than one at all! Once we get your information via the Help Desk will be sending you to fill out a form and then the Advertising Department will be alerted. They keep track of all the forms so we can use all the data collected to better pin point the bad ad in question.

Thanks for the help so far.
Last time I haunt you then I leave you alone: Everytime when I have the browser console open and refresh a dA-site it logs much errors like "unknown attribute '-moz-box-shadow'. declaration ignored" That is a 1:1 translation from german. what is meant by these? Is it something that my browser cannot compute? Just asking, because it looks funny loading a site, looking in that console and being greeted by about 30 error messages. I know that you may be the wrong person to ask but you have the best insight into dAΒ΄s structure as an admin and with the prior statement was no insult intended.

Thanks for letting me haunt you and steal a bit of time XD

That's pretty nasty.

You should definitely report it to the main helpdesk.

$ewm may know if there's a more direct line that should be used for advertising problems...

I had that redirect seconds ago again. It happened 17:35. IΒ΄ll keep the browser console open from now on, maybe I find that **shole-ad.
I donΒ΄t think that redirects are allowed without this "deviantart-leaving"warning. It just happens on the messages-site. It is reported but I hope I gave enough infos to find it, even the dA gods canΒ΄t change everything with fingersnapping XD

I don't suppose it is possible to integrate this into the actual website so that anyone can easily report an ad?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pachunka In reply to DeviBrigard [2013-09-20 23:12:51 +0000 UTC]

Afraid not. :/

The reason it has to be a plugin is that the Ad Frame and our site are treated by the browser as completely separate, so that one can't interfere/spy on the other.

The extension can bypass this, so it can peek inside both DA and the Frame, and pull out the needed information to identify which ad has gone rogue.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeviBrigard In reply to YOKOKY [2016-11-15 07:32:26 +0000 UTC]

Pretty sure this has been sent to me by accident (trouble of having the last comment on a deviation before the comment box ), but the download button works for me (it is in the sidebar beneath the favourite button, the "download file" in the description is just text)

But by your comments, it looks like what you actually want is to report a deviation, not an advertisement. To report a deviation, there's a little link just below the "stats" section in the sidebar, or you can try to locate a report form in the new help desk (cannot guarantee there's actually one in there anymore)

As an AdBlock-Plus extension user for many years, I'd forgotten that deviantART even *had* ads on it. I guess my question would be, why make an extension to let users block and report some ads, when there's already an extension that will block *all* the ads?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pachunka In reply to DragonflyImages [2012-08-16 22:50:12 +0000 UTC]

Most people don't use adblock,

And this is for the folks that want to help report ads that break the rules. It's been super-helpful.
