Description
So I've been feeling crummy and wanted to knock out something to get off my rear and play with ideas like;* Someone else referred to stuff I do as "cartoony," and if I'm going to do cartoony D&D, I should put some thought into it.
* I wanted to work on inks - I always need the practice - and play with markers, a medium I have really mixed feelings about, but which would be the easiest way to work doing convention sketches.
* Enter watching YouTube videos of Humberto Ramos drawing at conventions, which were really inspiring as far as both cartooniness and marker use.
* I've been realizing that - the same way I really like drawing dwarves because the shorter legs (plus typically beard or costume) emphasizes their faces - part of my fondness for D&D as a source of character types is that instantly you have at least some design guidelines.
One useful thing I figured out from doing this; "Prune" copic markers are awesome for shading, giving a touch of violet tint while desaturating color, a lot better than just the neutral gray markers (have not tried cool grays).

As that someone else, I assure you it was not meant as a negative in any way. In fact, quite the opposite. You have a unique illustrative style and I'm quite the fan of it.

This isn't the first time someone's said this, and I actually don't see it as negative (one of the other people who said I did cartoony was a professional animator). But all too often I kinda waffle about well, do I want to pull on cartooning, do I want to go more illustrative, and I wanted to *really* commit to one or the other (especially because I'd been drawing some more illustrative stuff before).

Nice stuff! I really like the female halfling. Her stance feels very relaxed, natural, and gives a certain dangerous heft to the blade in her hand.

Well I do like this style, whether it's cartoony or not. My favorite design of these is the one on the far left
