I gather they're leaving Dixie behind, yet it's still so...mysterious!
I have two theories: One theory is that, prior to DKC, DK and Diddy drop her off on a nearby island, out of the action, thinking she might get hurt (and with this in mind the Stickerbrush Symphony remix has a "heroic" mood to it).
The second theory I have (and unfortunately more realistic to me) is that this depicts Nintendo/Rareware's desertion of Dixie as a true DK contender, and that makes the song a very tearful, melancholy tune.
But whatever the true story behind this pic, you did fantastic work drawing it! And I really adore the barrage of orange you put into the pic -- it illustrates the "goodbye" very passionately.

I actually made this with the intent of the backstory being open to interpretation, so any theory can fit the bill here!
But yes - she certainly is being left behind most likely by Diddy and DK, perhaps not fit for the journey. But knowing Dixie, she'll probably find her own way to the fight and swoop in to save them from K. Rool's dastardly clutches just when they least expect it! Oooh, I feel an epic fan story developing here!
And I really like your Nintendo/Rareware theory - I hadn't thought of it at the time, but it does reflect that situation quite well. Sad, yes, but with the DK franchise's recent turn for the better, I like to think she'll be back on that ship sooner rather than later!
After all, that tune does seem to end with a nostalgic feeling of hope, and plants the idea in my mind that ends are really just new beginnings.
