Description ...to get this close to the mouth of a Horned frog!?! This is Krimpet..my oldest and largest ml. I do have to say that unless you know how to properly handle these guys that you do watch what you put in front of them. Even as a baby these guys can and will bite if they see something as food (which is almost EVERYTHING) or as a threat. And they can draw blood too!

I had a horned frog once. Needless to say, he was in his own terrarium apart from all the other frogs I had at the time. I still remember how he would see frogs moving in the terrarium next door and try to leap at them, whacking himself over and over again against the glass, determined not to let those annoying walls keep him from his prey.

I'm surprised this one didn't bite the camera.

Yeah I had to tape a piece of black cloth to the side of one of my horned frog's tanks for that same reason. Kept trying to get at the fish in the next tank! They truly are the Bulldogs of the frogs...very tenacious!

URGENT - could you please put a link-back to the #Tiny-Worlds-Photo March contest [link] in your description as this is a mandatory requirement in the rules. The contest is now over, so please attend to this as soon as you get this message. Thanks.

I do like the motive and the rather precise DOF focus on the eyes. Nonetheless the background is too uneasy on the eyes, distracting from your main motive. Apart from that, you might want to use some noise reduction (in reasonable quantities), get rid of the hair? between his eyes and fix the white-balance a bit. 6,5/10

Thanks for the input on the shot. I am always welcome to critiques. I didn't even notice the hair until I uploaded the shot! And to be honest I don't have a clue where the heck it came from b/c I don't have any furry animals right now....oh no wait a minute! The mice/rats I fed my snakes are WHITE! I wonder if that is a long mouse or rat hair! How it got on the frog is anyone's guess!

And to be honest I can't stand shots taken inside and I agree that the background isn't the best. I prefer to usually take my herptiles outside to get more of a natural set-up shot. But with it being so cold recently...they would freeze their little butts off. I think I have to take a trip to the local craft store and see what I can pick up to try to make the background a little more appealing.

Black Cloth would do a good job to get a nice black background (who wouldve thought ) Works good with rather low f-stop (as used in this picture).
White Paper creates a nice, bright, artsy effect.

You know I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I have a large black velvet (it's smooth on the other side) cloth that I have all ready used last yr in two of my shots. I gotta dig that out and try it. I gotta pick up a white one tho... Thank again for your tips and help.

Thank you. I really love the cryptic color on these guys myself. It does help to have herps that are easy to handle.

How big is Krimpet now? And how old?

I had one of these little guys, but he died. I felt so bad because I know it must have been something I was doing wrong. I want to get another but I'm so worried it'd just die again and I don't want to do that to the poor things.
