Description My beautiful fm snow corn, Luna. I picked the title I did for this shot b/c she is the lightest color snake I currently have. She was just hanging on on the oak in my front yard for this photo.

Thank you. The snows are definitely one of my fav Corn morphs. There is just something extra beautiful, to me, about a white snake like her.

lovely snake and is that a leaf in the back? looks like a feather xD

TY she is a nice looking corn. That leaf you see is actually a seed casing. She was hanging on a maple tree in the front of my yard and maples have seed casing that are kind of wing shaped. Helps to disperse the seeds as far way from the parent tree once they fall off.

so knowledgeable(spelt wrong isn't it?)

Ya that makes a lot of since now that I think about it. Sometimes I see them on the ground randomly.

She is lovely - I want a snake, but unfortunately no one else that I live with is very fond of the idea!

Yeah I see that as been a issue with quite a few of my friends. But maybe you can try to educate them more on snakes and can prove that you will be a good owner so will be worthy of having one. Sometimes that helps.

Corn's are awesome snakes and make really good pets. I have a few of them but the snows are one of my fav morphs. Something about a white like this on a snake...just stunning. Do you have a pic of your corn up?

Buhaaghule In reply to PaganFireSnake [2011-09-11 17:56:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I agree.
I had two a few years back, a snow and a regular orange and white one, but we lived with kids and they escaped when I was on vacation x.x
I was so pissed!!
Yes I do, she's in my Photography folder, if you're interested.
She is a doll :3

OMG yeah I would have been pretty ticked off too!:/ I have had snake get out in the past...I think every snake owner has. But that was all my fault. When it due to someone being irresponsible or just not thinking and they get away b/c of that...I'd have words with them!

Buhaaghule In reply to PaganFireSnake [2011-09-12 01:51:00 +0000 UTC]

xD yeah I was so annoyed.
I've had really weird living situations, and that one sucked xD
But now, there's no lil kids so I won't have to worry about Svet escaping.

Glad you at least are in a better situation now. My brother and I are 10 yrs apart, me being the oldest. But even with him he knew better then to mess with any of my animals if I wasn't around, unless I gave him permission to do so. Even friends that he would bring over. They knew better then to mess with any of my herptiles. Mostly out of respect for me but also b/c they knew they would feel the wrath of me or my mother if they tried anything stupid.

Buhaaghule In reply to PaganFireSnake [2011-09-12 15:47:01 +0000 UTC]

Lol see, like my sisters respect that (I'm the oldest too), and my mum's friend's kids do too.
But when it comes to pets, they don't care.
It's like really?
I am the one who BOUGHT the snakes AND everything in the cage.
THEREFORE they're MINE!
xD
I dunno, I am glad, cuz Svet is my lil bebe.

I am thinking of getting a phantom corn for her to possibly breed with.
I think a striped phantom would be cool!!
I still need to read up and stuff, maybe sell the hatchlings to local petstores!

PaganFireSnake In reply to Buhaaghule [2011-09-12 19:23:59 +0000 UTC]

Well the stripe is a simple recessive and Phantom is a double recessive. You may not get a striped Phantom with a first breeding unless the stripe has the gene for Phantom and/or the Phantom has the gene for stripe. You may need to cross back one of the offspring to the parents to get a Striped Phantom. It's like if you want an Albino Pied with ball pythons. You have to do some crossing back. And that is if you even get the offspring you need to cross back in the first breeding...
I love genetics but it can get a bit crazy sometimes...especially when you are dealing with recessive genes!

Buhaaghule In reply to PaganFireSnake [2011-09-13 03:18:25 +0000 UTC]

That actually makes sense.
Eh, isn't imbreeding bad though?
I mean, I can see how it'd work but I'd feel bad to make bebe go on mama or daddy xD
I kinda wanna experiment for my first batch.
Just to see, then go all out for my second, if my first is nice :3
Oh I am all recessive, they're the best.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PaganFireSnake In reply to Buhaaghule [2011-09-13 13:12:21 +0000 UTC]

Inbreeding can definitely be bad. However we wouldn't have half of the morphs we have in all captive animals if it wasn't for inbreeding. That is why you need to know your genetics and know if certain morphs also carry some bad traits. Like the Caramel morph in Ball Pythons. For some reason that gene also carries spine kinking. Now not all Caramels are kinked. However it does follow that gene. So if you have a clutch of caramels you want to make sure the parents come from the best lines so there is less of a chance of kinking.
And with recessives most have been made by crossing them back to either parent or sibling to sibling. Yes you run into the chance of getting more problems but you can get issues with totally unrelated animals too. Like crossing a Sable ball python to a Spider ball python...that has been found to produce a still born offspring. So either way you are taking a risk anytime you breed any two animals. My suggestion, aside from knowing your genetics and if a particular morph is known to carry issues, is to also pick the healthiest animals.

Snows and butters my absolute favorites. I finally got my first butter motley at the last show I went to.
I'm still a beginner in the reptile game. I'm sure it's obvious, lol.

Hey we all start off somewhere. I sure wasn't born knowing what I do and not even the best experts know everything. I'm always learning new stuff too. If you ever have any questions feel free to hit me up any time.
BTW I do have a butter too. They definitely are a very nice morph as well!

Aww, thank you! It's always nice to know someone with more information then I have about this. I love my dears, but I'm still getting lost on what to do at times.

I don't know why I am so infatuated with butters, but I am. They're just so pretty!

PaganFireSnake In reply to Frankey44 [2011-09-10 16:21:04 +0000 UTC]

TY. She's early 2009 "model". That yellow will start to show more once they hit about 1 yr old. But it also depends on what line they are from. Some snows develop more yellow then others.

Frankey44 In reply to PaganFireSnake [2011-09-12 03:56:12 +0000 UTC]

Yup, my baby is a little over a year and a half It's fun because he gets a little more yellow every time he sheds (which is quite frequent since he's a fatty)

TY. She does have quite a bit of pink in her but she is just a "regular" snow. But the next herptile snow I go to (in Oct) I maybe looking for one of the more high pink snows....maybe a male since the males normally have more color then the females.

isaidno In reply to PaganFireSnake [2011-09-13 20:46:00 +0000 UTC]

not for a bit most of them are a clump

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PaganFireSnake In reply to isaidno [2011-09-14 18:10:04 +0000 UTC]

I've candled ones like that. Of course it's not as easy. But if you can bring the container the clutch is in into a dark room, like a bathroom, you can still see some veins if you use a small flash light and angle it right. At least you should be able to make out the ones on the edge of the clump.

PaganFireSnake In reply to isaidno [2011-09-15 15:14:44 +0000 UTC]

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that this clutch goes well. A lot of the times first time clutches just aren't right and go bad. Some say it's b/c the females body isn't totally prepared for it, even if she is in prefect health and optimal breeding condition. Glad though that this clutch is looking good for you!
