Description
Alright guys, I know I've been promising some more tutorials for a while so here's one! Before you read anything, just want to say as a disclaimer- This is just the way I do things, I'm not saying its the right or best way, its just what I use and it works best for me.Some notes:
The creature I sculpted here belongs to *MrNostalgia The image you see in some of the photos was also done by him, and can be viewed here mrnostalgia.deviantart.com/art...
Please ask any questions you may have! I'm happy to try and help

Oh my god, you are awsome! Thanks so much for this tutorial!
I really had trouble creating figures, they always lost their shape/ legs/ arms etc. , so I, in return, totally lost interest in working with clay! I never thought about adding a solid skeleton!
Additionally, I have a question (I am really sorry if you answered it anywhere before):
Can you bake this stuff in the same oven than you do your food in?
(I saw you wirting about this topic in the comments here, but since my english is not that great, I did not fully understand)

I'm so happy it helped!
I can't really tell you for sure, I think it depends on the type of clay. I use Sculpey, and this clay is safe in the oven per their website
"IS IT SAFE TO BAKE SCULPEY® IN THE SAME OVEN I USE TO PREPARE MY FOOD?
Yes. It is perfectly safe to bake your clay in the oven in which you prepare your food. When used as directed, polymer clays do not give off toxic chemicals in the curing process. There is a slight odor, which in not harmful. We recommend using good ventilation while baking, such as using the oven hood fan. Pre-heat your oven. We always recommend using an oven thermometer (available at most grocery or hardware stores). Many times, ovens are not calibrated accurately and are actually hotter than the temperature on the dial.
Many Polyform customers make a living using Sculpey® products as their art or craft medium and do a lot of baking. For this, we recommend using a dedicated professional oven for consistency of temperature." www.sculpey.com/support/faqs/
What I make sure to do is have a seperate cookie sheet/ baking pan that I use ONLY for clay.

it's okay to bake the clay with the foil inside the sculpture?

painted-flamingo In reply to Yohimitsun [2013-10-20 20:49:24 +0000 UTC]
yup! just try and keep the clay thickness the same on top of the foil, and don't make it too thin or you run the risk of cracking

can you use a easy bake to dry oven bake clay like sculpey?

do you know what temp you easy bake heats too? It needs to get to 275F, and you don't want it too high or the clay will burn. If you put the clay in the oven you can no longer put food in it I'd assume. There are other clays that don't require oven baking though

nope not that expensive, actually I think I may have paid more in the store than amazon charges You can get better clay like super sculpey ect. but I'm on college budget so this cheapest sculpey is fine with me
Tools you don't need to buy but they are helpful
Hope you will start to do clay I bet you will be good and have fun with it!

Do you use any specific paints and stuff to colour them?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
painted-flamingo In reply to RubyPetal [2013-07-01 00:30:44 +0000 UTC]
Just acrylics! They don't need to be clay specific. Like I say on the tutorial though, you don't want the really cheap stuff. If you get really cheap you will have to paint a million coats to not see the clay underneath. I use mainly FolkArt and Americana, this size I buy www.plaidonline.com/folkart-ac... Still cheap, but not the cheapest and covers well
