Description here is a t rex, and what inspired aspects of it.
how would I describe a T. rex? well. I would say it's a cross between an alligator an eagle and a bear.
Part of this chart is that I wanted to put T. rex's size into perspective. It's not even close to the largest animal that ever existed, but it is quite large.
Another thing is that I wanted to show that T. rex can fit in with modern animals

you can see the influences in terms of color
Disclaimer: I do not take credit for the skeletal references used as bases for the silhouettes I make.

Did you mean Rex's lenght or height by " large"? Because if you meant the height, ( As weird as that sounds like.) I can't agree here.

T. rex is only 40' long
several sauropods break 100' long

Size is defined by mass.

Phillip2001 In reply to IMemeEverything [2018-11-16 19:51:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, in my opinion, that's just plain stupid. For example, that would make Ankylosaurus bigger than Tyrannosaurus, which it wasn't.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IMemeEverything In reply to Phillip2001 [2018-11-16 21:27:48 +0000 UTC]

Nope. Ankylosaurus was around seven tons and Tyrannosaurus was around nine.

Phillip2001 In reply to IMemeEverything [2018-11-17 11:37:58 +0000 UTC]

Dude, isn't 9 tons a little too heavy for Tyrannosaurus? Where did you hear that?

RAITHEHOTDOG In reply to Phillip2001 [2018-11-17 15:08:30 +0000 UTC]

One thing; 9 tons equates to 8.1 metric tons, which is not too heavy for Tyrannosaurus at all.

Whoops, I meant 9 metric tons.

Commie-Speeno In reply to Phillip2001 [2018-11-17 15:04:50 +0000 UTC]

No dude. A 9 ton Tyrannosaurus isn't too far off. Do you know who Franoys is? Well,Franoys is one of the only reliance sources for theropod (and other dinosaur) mass and length estimates. Like IME said,Sue's estimate was at almost 9,000 kg. Here is some reference www.deviantart.com/franoys/art… as you can see,Sue is almost at the 9 ton range, making Tyrannosaurus rex the biggest theropod not by length, but by mass. So no,9 tons isn't too heavy for a Tyrannosaurus and Ankylosaurus isn't heavier than Tyrannosaurus, with some estimates putting it at 4-5 ton range.

"Dude, regardless of to-date evidence suggesting so, isn't it a little too heavy (as if I'm better than paleontologists/students studying paleontology) for Tyrannosaurus? Where did you hear that?"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phillip2001 In reply to RAITHEHOTDOG [2018-11-18 10:05:06 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean by that exactly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RAITHEHOTDOG In reply to Phillip2001 [2018-11-18 14:35:57 +0000 UTC]

My main point is that you are denying what to-date information suggests, (as Commie Speeno mentioned) Franoys' GDI analysis, Hartman's (slightly conservative) GDI analysis, and Snively et al. (2018) put Tyrannosaurus at 8-9 tonnes. (FYI this information all comes from paleontologists and a university student who is studying paleontology.)
I was basically repeating what you said (hence the quotation marks), but implying that 9 tons isn't far off and emphasising your fallacies.

Phillip2001 In reply to RAITHEHOTDOG [2018-11-18 15:50:29 +0000 UTC]

Dude, I didn't say it wasn't 8-9 tons, I was just wondering.

RAITHEHOTDOG In reply to Phillip2001 [2018-11-18 16:49:06 +0000 UTC]

You were just wondering when you said "isn't it a little too heavy"?

Phillip2001 In reply to RAITHEHOTDOG [2018-11-19 16:10:46 +0000 UTC]

Ah, ok.

IMemeEverything In reply to Phillip2001 [2018-11-17 13:50:40 +0000 UTC]

Franoys' GDI analysis (one of the only reliable sources for skeletal references) puts Sue, the largest specimen of Tyrannosaurus, at 8828 kg. 9 tons isn't that much of a stretch.

it's a max size rex, just a few inches longer than sue

Spinosaurus14 In reply to Paleop [2016-08-13 18:05:07 +0000 UTC]

Bigger than Sue? I thougt that he has the size of Stan, with a heigh of just 3.3meters and a lenght of just a little bit over 11 meters. Even Scott's model of Sue which is slightly smaller than the skeleton in the museum is bigger.

Paleop In reply to Gorgomoloch [2016-07-26 12:19:24 +0000 UTC]

American alligators are dark grey with a light(white) underside and there is some yellow in there too.
and crocodiles can be  anywhere from green to grey to brown to bright orange
