Description
I got busy with moving (fourth time in six months? agghhh), and then diablo came out, and then my boyfriend showed up on my doorstep and then I remembered skyrim exists.Must do more art.
I wasn't really happy with it but I felt like I spent too long on it so I shipped it in. At least I felt like I learned a lot doing it.
I'll be going through comments/art/stuff tomorrow! So sorry if I haven't gotten back to anything or respond way too late. :C

You totally nailed the pose and I can almost hear the coat tail snapping from how you've depicted it's movement. That's one of the things I like most about your work, the energy in not only pose but the clothing.
As a costume designer I am intrigued by the coat. Is it tucked into his belt at the small of his back and is the cape and torso all one piece that layers over a shirt beneath?

Admittedly, the coat is rather fudged--it's inspired by a standard ol' cowboy duster ([link] is one, and [link] . Sadly I can't find the exact image I used ). The part that's impossible is the fact that a coat would never split so perfectly underneath a belt and then flow outwards; his is somehow closed at the top, then magically becomes open towards the bottom to flow out. Realistically, either 1) the duster would be completely open at the top or 2) you'd be able to see above the belt where the duster began to split, but I thought both looked weird when you stuck a belt over it. So I fudged it. :C
Thanks muchly for your comments, and sorry for rambling so hard!

Don't worry about the rambling I do it too. I was just curious because that is how my brain approaches all character designs no matter their intended purpose.
I really enjoyed the composition regardless of realism. Sometimes drama makes for a better picture and this was definitely one of those instances.

character is cool colours are not so good, probably needs more contrast between the cape and the torso?

Hmmm, I think you're right. I had the contrast up pretty high, then actually made it more neutral. I'll get to fixing that when I get home.
Thanks man!

hahaha I jump in and out of the internet.
And oh yeah, it's a pretty rockin' game, despite all the launch issues.

haha yeaaah. Admittedly it was a really poor launch. But it works now at least, and it's awesome.

considering how hardcore i got into starcraft 2 last year, i think it would be in my best interests to avoid diablo 3. it does look damn pretty though.

and now isnt it getting some mmo expansion?

Palidoozy In reply to rtil [2012-05-31 23:45:48 +0000 UTC]
The MMO is separate from Skyrim, and from what I understand, basically related in name only. It's also being made by a different company than their core team. Granted, most of the Elder Scrolls games are hundreds of years apart and only related in lore/name only.
Skyrim is getting an expansion though, stand-alone non-online. I am excited about the expansion, not so much about the MMO.

Nah. Some folks have modded online capabilities to Skyrim, but really the type of game Skyrim and the series is doesn't really cater well to an MMO IMO.
It's all about how badass you are and caters very well to fantastical imaginative journeys, which isn't really possible... y'know, with millions of other badasses just like you.

i always thought that it was funny to pause gameplay instantly and look through all your shit for as long as you wanted to do something. seems to kind of ruin the moment as far as being a badass goes. oh just pause this epic battle while i sort through all the shit in my endless pockets for that item that i'm going to shoot through your head. but i haven't actually played it so i wouldn't know. it just makes me laugh

Oh yeah, that part's hilarious. Especially when you pause, go to your inventory, shove 30 ham steaks into your mouth, then carry on.
Really, I wouldn't be as into the Elder Scrolls games as much as I am were it not for the prolific modding community (much like how I am with Minecraft). Anything you want to change about the game someone's pretty much thought up and done--I think there's even a mod to stop pausing inventory, guzzling potions, carrying on.

that's why i love sim city 4 so much. all the mods and buildings you can download to make your city prettier and more fun to play.
which reminds me - have you seen the sim city 5 previews so far? i'm pretty excited for it.. but not so excited for the origin exclusive part of it. but i'll still get it anyway.. i have battlefield 3 so i've gotten over the initial redundancy (it doesnt even use origin to launch the game)

Yes, I love that! I just started getting into SC4 and went " o lawd there are mods!" Then I went crazy. There's one that allows you to make an actual farming town, which I thought was super sweet.
I've seen some of the SC5 trailers, and I'm definitely a fan of how they're going on the environmental approach... my only worry is that I'm afraid they're going to make it like Anno 2070 or Sim City Societies, where you feel more... I dunno, constrained? Also I'm afraid they're going to dumb down the difficulty. I guess I'm cautiously optimistic for it!
Haha I think i've had to deal with origin before, so I'm not that concerned with it.

yeah i've played so many sc4 mods. the farm one is nice because it's just about impossible to establish a real farming town in sc4 vanilla. the traffic mods are nice too, because citizens in sc4 have unrealistic expectations about commute times and/or will take ass-backwards routes to work (case in point "I found out this sim's workplace was on a one-way road that fed into another one-way road that fed into a ferry station. They easily could have walked the four blocks home, but instead they followed the road and took a ferry all the way across the city, drove across the western borough, took a bus downtown, and then took the subway home.
There was another route that was even worse, but I lost it while zooming out to take the picture. Crazy dude drove all the way south from downtown, through the southeast tunnel, and back up the eastern main drag.")
i was worried about sc5 being watered down too, but the devs continue to assure the fanbase that it's going to be even more in-depth than sc4 ever was. at the very least, more data is going to be available to us, and the way the resources and flow of the game works is definitely an improvement. for example, you can see the flow of water, who is using it and how much, and underground sources of water can be depleted, but can also replenish themselves. you can also see where water pollution is coming from, and if water is too polluted it can make the sims sick.
they keep releasing small demo videos on it from time to time on the official site and on youtube. [link] < - here's the water video i was talkinga bout. there's a few others too

Oh my god yes yes and yes@the traffic mod. I have NEVER been able to get traffic to work properly with vanilla SC4--I conclude that it is either completely and utterly FUBAR'd or perhaps SC4 is making snarky commentary on real life.
There's a new trailer out for SC5 that is holy shit, it makes the entire thing look like a model train set graphically which I thought was awesome. It also sounds like they're going to add in more hazards to throw at you than SC4, which is something I really like--in SC4 unless you deliberately cause natural disasters every kind of thing that plagues your city is caused by you, the player, fucking up somehow. I really like that random element because it changes up the nature of the game.
Either way I'm nervously stoked for it! I get more and more excited the more stuff I see for it.
