Description
Large piece (22x30) executed in mixed media (acrylic, watercolor, india ink, gouache, charcoal) on 140lb hot press Fabriano Artistico. Roughly based on the concept of Odin's ravens, there is some vine like figures on the branches reminiscent of Nordic decorations.I sold the original: a bargain at $375... and have to admit that I miss it.

It was used to sketch out the birds and start the shadows, and then I added the watercolor, ink, and acrylic over it. You can't really see much of it anymore, but a lot of it is mixing with the gouache to form some of those greys.
It's sneaky.

splendid! one of my favorite subjects.
this is just my interpretation, but i imagine Thought as the black Raven, hard and imediate, and Memory as the white, muted and a bit ethereal. the detailing and texture is fantastic. i really like the decorative elements in the tree bark.

I got my print - it's lovely, and residing in one of my portfolio books where I keep my small but much loved print collection. Out on the studio lobby table where it can be seen and enjoyed by all. Someday maybe I'll be able to frame and hang every piece of art I love, but for now, this way works pretty well!

The branches are well done, and the details embedded in the bark are amazing. The wash in the background, gives a feeling of more branches and trees. (Well to me it does.)
This is a wonderful piece. It must have taken you a long time, but it was well worth the effort. c:

Haha, no problem... I was just thinking a few weeks ago, saying, "If I happen to get another D.D., it had better be nothing other than 'Thought and Memory.' Otherwise, whatever..."
I'm just glad it's quieting down here again. Such a mess!

Oh wow; I don't know much about mythology, but I always loved the idea of bird familiars, so to say. People think birds (especially crows and ravens,) are really scary--but they're smart and witty, too, if you can believe that!
Birds have so much personality, and you really showed that here. Beautiful feathers...my god! Congrats, this definitely deserved its DD!

Love the composition. Never seen a black raven before but I find it interesting how we think the nature and behavior of the bird is different just because the color is
