Description
Large piece (22x30) executed in mixed media (acrylic, watercolor, india ink, gouache, charcoal) on 140lb hot press Fabriano Artistico. Roughly based on the concept of Odin's ravens, there is some vine like figures on the branches reminiscent of Nordic decorations.I sold the original: a bargain at $375... and have to admit that I miss it.

Ah, yes... This was one of my favorite "mood based" pieces.
I'd been to the Upper Peninsula only once, but my god, if I could go back, I would. Such beautiful country! (Sadly, I grew up in Iowa. Very few trees...

Oh it's been a while since I had to do research on it and so my memory is fuzzy on names and such. The style was very different but still "me". I don't think I have a color image of the piece. I will have to rummage through my slides and pics.

I do rather like the detail included in the branches. It does give it the feel that the setting is somewhere on the fringes between Midgard and Asgard. I've never seen these two portrayed as one white and one black but it seems to serve the purpose of identifying them. Which one is Huginn and which Muninn?

And to answer your question, I made Huginn the black one, and Muninn the white. Part of the reason behind Muninn's white coloration is me thinking he'd read more like a memory if he seemed less tangible, more fragile, like something out of the past. But of course, the viewer can interpret however they wish.

More of a stylistic choice/metaphor... It depicts Muninn (Memory), and as his name says, he resembles in a sense something like a ghost. He's also transparent... well, they both are...

I can't even begin to tell you how amazing this picture is! If I ever found the talent to create something like this, I don't think I'd ever be able to sell it! The detail is so beautiful, and the position of the white raven is simply gorgeous, not to mention original. The black raven looks like he's about to spring off my monitor, and fly around my room! Amazing work, this truly is a masterpiece!
