Description Would ya look at that, a Balto fan character named Balto.
Anywho, this is my age-old Balto fan character that needed a ref. I made him up a very long time ago back in second grade, when I read this little book about Balto(the actual dog, not the movie). I thought,"What a great story! I'm gonna create a character of Balto." and I did. I drew millions of pictures of him and I really liked him, since he was the first real character I had ever had. Then one day, when we were going to leave on a trip soon and my mom, my sister and I went to library to look at movies for me and my sister to watch on the long car ride, I saw this movie called Balto. This really surprised me, because I thought that Balto had only been my character and nobody else's, so you could say it came as kind of a shock. I was going to get it when some one else took it, so I wasn't able to see it. After that I didn't give it much thought until about a year later, when I saw it again at the library, and my mom let me get it. I watched and I hated it. I didn't like it at all, except for the animation maybe. Everything was wrong, the story line, the markings, everything. Firstly, I thought, Balto wasn't supposed to be brown, he was supposed to be black and white. Secondly, he wasn't a wolf at all, he was a purebred husky that carried the mail, nothing more, nothing less. And thirdly, the storyline was wrong. It had almost nothing to do with the real story, except that the whole town of Nome got sick and they tried to get medicine to them different ways and failed resorting to having the dogs sled pull it to them from the train,in a relay, and Balto brought it to them at 2 in the morning. The rest was wrong, Balto wasn't any part wolf, no one hated him, he did have a team of dogs at his command, he did have an owner, and he was just a post-pulling dog, not a racing one. After a while though, I starting liking it more and more, until I couldn't really find a lot wrong with it. I started drawing my own character Balto in the same style, because I loved it so much. I wanted to make a whole movie of my own Balto, until a while later(maybe 2 years) I realized I couldn't. There were, of course, copyright conflictions and stuff like that, stuff that I wouldn't be able to handle. So I basically gave up and threw away my own Balto and just watched the movies. I did like the first Balto movie a lot, and watched it over and over again. When I finally saw the second movie, I hated it. Again I thought everything was wrong, except that this time, I never liked it much. Everything about it was awful, the story, the characters, even the animation. I do know rl Balto's true story, and it's really sad, but I don't feel like telling it here, this description's too long already. I didn't like the third one much either, but better than the second one.

So,anywho, I've decided to bring my Balto back and keep him as a fan character, he's now(in my world) one of the offspring of Aleu. I'm still not a big fan of the second and third movies, but I can accept that they exist and work with them all the same.

Well, hope you like it^^ I'm thinking of making a Balto fan comic some day. Tell me what you think~

Very nice. Actually the real Balto was brown with white markings:

I used to have a dog who was half wolf. Great dog, though I wouldn't recommend them as a first pet.

I don't mean to argue, or anything, but from other pictures I've seen, he was a black/brown.

Oh man, I can't imagine! What was it like?

Huh, interesting. most of the photos I saw of him were in black and white.

The color photo on wikipedia of him mounted at a musueum shows his fur is brown and white.

As for my dog, he was pretty friendly. Only reason I wouldn't recommend a wolfdog as a first time pet is because their wild side tends to show, thankfully mine was more doglike(Dad was a Chow-Chow and his mom was a wolf). Had him back in the early 90s before owning a wolfdog without a permit or license became illegal in some states.
Other than that he was good dog. I miss him

Yeah, but I think it may be the lighting in that picture. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, I would expect that. I've never actually owned a dog before, I'm more of a cat person myself, but I've always thought having a dog would be fun.

Maybe... dogs are great pets. I like cats but I've never had one mainly because my Dad's allergic to them. Two of my favorite colors are the black & white tuxedo and calico.

OMG THIS IS BEAUTIFUL AND ME LOVES BALTO!!!!! But I completely agree with your description.I don`t know if you have ever seen Balto 2,but he has puppies with Jenna,I did some research on Balto, and it says Balto was fixed so he couldn`t have puppies.I liked Balto 1,and 2 and 3,but they are definatly not accuriate.

Yeah, I have seen 2 and 3. They definitely aren't accurate, as you said, but they're kid's movies, so they have to improvise and make it interesting, because the real story about what happens to Balto is actually quite depressing

I didn't know the part about him getting neutered, that's very interesting^^

It's not really what you'd call a research book, it's just the simple story about him in a format of one of those "road to reading" books.
Yeah, I did know that, I don't know what museum though, if I could find out, I'd love to see it.
