Description
As requested byA small group of polish soldiers are pin down on the rough streets of *Enter Middle Eastern city name here* fighting against the MEC.
Two soldiers are using the Kbs wz. 1996 Beryl rifle with EOTechs (Note that because of my ignorance about these laser sights I forgot to draw the damn laser pointers
The Kbs wz. 1996 Beryl is a derivate of the Kalashnikov series but it has been designed specifically to fire the NATO 5.56 mm round. The PKM is a soviet made machinegun. The Polish forces still use a large variety of russian weaponry but they're currently being phased out by equipments developed and produced in Poland and other stuff made outside Poland mostly from NATO members.
So.... I did hurry coloring this pic
Some things I want to try in the future are drawings that focus not only on one side (Like this picture does) but I want to go further into drawing general combat scenes where you can see both sides or an angle of combat in which you don't get to see easily who is who (Which is a situation that often happens in war). Hmmm... But since the request was about having polish soldiers then it was pretty obvious that the picture had to be more focused on the polish soldiers (Duh!
In this picture I used a variety of special brushes for photoshop. I used "Distressed", "Grunge and dirt", "Gravel and sand" and "Bullet holes" (Great tool I must add) brushes from
I also used a wood brush (Not highly noticeable) on the wood boards in front of that door. That brush is from
The lovely camouflage I applied to all the soldiers was made using some photos as reference. There is a brush pack from which I used to generate what I hope is an accurate camouflage pattern currently in use with the Polish Land forces.
Well... there ain't much to add now.
Once that is done (And I promise it's one of my most kickass drawings
I don't promise I'll make from that a high quality work but I'll put my best effort on it
I'll get to all your comments, replies, deviations and journals as soon as possible.
Until then... See'ya in the Battlefield!

For the same reason everyone else is: To fight terrorists and insurgents.
Oh and while this particular piece is not based on any particular event, Polish forces have been present in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yes. It's a PKM.
Well at least I did use PKM pictures to draw it although I believe the Polish military uses a PKM model that's chambered on the NATO 7,62 ammunition rather than a typical Russian built PKM.

cool picture
your a good artist
oh btw, an eotech like the one the guy to the rights gun is holograpic, meaning when your aiming you have both eyes open, simulating the effect of having a reticle, much like in video games

Yeah I know... I've been told that a bit earlier. Didn't know that before drawing this 'though but in the future I will take that fact into account.
You see since I have not fired a weapon in my whole life (Much less had acess to assault rifles or it's modern popular gadgets) I've no real personal experience about those matters.
So I appreciate very much that, when I make a mistake of this kind, I'm told about it.
Thanks

Yeah...
I guess it's because there's some ban on airsoft replicas of guns since apparently some idiots used a couple of replicas to assault a business.
That and I would think that the stuff would be a bit expensive here in Argentina given that there are no Manufaturers either (Because of the above mentioned incident and also because there would be a low demand of this stuff anyway).

Nice work, Sven
Would be nice, if EA and Dice put a Polish army to the Battlefield 2.

Well...
There's a modification for Battlefield 2 called Project Reality. It's a great combat experience within the BF2 engine.
And one positive part of the mod is that it has a lot of factions currently being made for it. That includes the Polish military in maps against the Talibans, Insurgents and Russia. It's not ready yet but eventually it will be included for PR. Check the forums here: [link]
So far they have iraqi insurgents, talibans, the US Army, the US Marine Corps, The British Army, Some sort of russian-based militia (Often refered to as the chechens), The Russian Army and the PLA.
The original factions from BF2 have been extensively modified in this mod so they hold almost no resemblance.
Other factions being made for PR are the Israelis, Hamas (To come in the next update of the mod), then we have the french, norwegians, dutch, canadians, germans, australians, private security company and a random african militia.
Unoficially there are other factions being made for PR like the Taiwanese, the Japanese, the Chinese marines, Argentines, Iranians, etc. 'though most of them will take longer to hit PR.

You should better use photos of real life polish soldiers as reference They're more precise (and after all they're the real deal) rather than this picture. But thank you

Well you could use it as reference I guess but the ultimate help comes from using real life photos That can't be beaten by any drawing of mine

Most of my pics used to be downloadable but for security concerns I decided to add a watermark on my works and not allow the download of the fullsize picture in order to keep evidence in case of art thieves.
Which picture is going to be deemed more original? The one with the smallest size and resolution? Or the bigger one?
If you want to download it in its current size you can easily do that by just saving the picture. Although I wonder why would you want to download it
Anyway thanks for faving it.

MouseDenton In reply to Panzerfire [2009-02-13 18:20:28 +0000 UTC]
Well I save them under the end of the URL when you click to download it, so that way I have the image name and the user name of the person who made it, or at least uploaded it to DeviantArt.
I really would download it just out of paranoia I guess; fear that something will happen (like DeviantArt shutting down *Knock on wood*) and this will be lost to me forever. Or something small like being in a place where I have no internet acess. But recently I've been using pictures downloaded from DeviantArt as my desktop.
But, like my collection of boxes, I'm sure I'll find a use for them, and I'll be sure to do it legaly by citing the source/maker.

lol... be careful when using other people artwork
Some can really try to have you banned for that while others won't care much if you cite. Try to ask the original artist first before editing or using anything from them

MouseDenton In reply to Panzerfire [2009-02-18 03:18:49 +0000 UTC]
Oh I'm not using them for anything, and really I don't plan on it.
I most definetly won't edit anything I find here, that I find to be outragous (unless of course you are given permission, but I'm not the digital-art type so I wouldn't edit anything I get)
But thanks for the advice; I will be more careful.

Sweet, sweet, SWEET! Nice to see Polish troops in art, anime-style too ^_^
Some details are slightly off... If you'd like reference for future drawings...
Me, with a basic Beryl, no optics rail attached - [link]
My wife posing in my uniform, with another Beryl, this one with a rail on top and a scope on it so you can see how scopes and eotechs are attached - [link] (this one is missing the bipod retainer collar on the barrel, though)

Heh... so cool to see this kind of art - it really made my day

Well... it was fun to draw these guys. I should draw them again sometime in the future although everybody wants to have it's army drawn in anime style
Nice photos there. I actually used some shots of polish soldiers in wikipedia. And I did used reference although guns lately are not coming out as I want them to do.
I'm still much of a rookie on this so it's a matter of practice.
I'm glad you like it.
