I'm a bitter Valentine
Colder than can be
I've never liked this holiday
It's not my cup of candied tea

I've always hated valentines
For cupids bow is sharp
As my tears waltz to the melody
Of angels melancholic harp

All I've found is sugar
In a glorified heart shaped box
And on college doors this time of year
Found only tattletale socks

Doodling hearts on paper
Isn't allowed on the 14th day
Yet I can resume my art tomorrow
When the red roses wither away

Candy grams and sugar hearts;
Something every girl hopes to receive
But they're rabbits in a bear trap
All that's left to do is grieve

I'm a bitter Valentine
Walking with a frown
But she's a queen of hearts
Begging for the crown

It's the day to have your feelings crushed
Not like there are three hundred and four more
But of course this one is special
Since plain days are a bore

Sure I'd want a teddy bear
One as tattered as perspective
Who'd want to alone the night
Of a holiday so infective

I'm a bitter Valentine
Red roses have their thorns
I'll prick my finger as surely as
Dear lovers have their scorns

All you see is couples kissing
Side by side, hand in hand
PDA makes it unbearable
To walk high schools swarming land

Even in elementary we gave each other cards
In the shadow of love with intentions naïve
We thought it was a holiday to celebrate
Not a time lie in bed and seethe

Warm feelings mixed with a liter of tears
Valentines day is Cupids lost and found
With desperation around each corner
Your "true love" will soon be crowned

As you can see I'm a bitter Valentine
Asking me is pure depravity
All I see are smiles but
Sweetness leaves a cavity

Why I don't like Valentines Day
Is not a thing to ponder
Simply take an abstract image
Of hearts conceived for squander

I don't expect to be a princess
Or graciously sit upon a throne
For Valentines Day is not so different
Just another day for being alone
