Have you ever come to wonder
Which monsters flit about
In all disdainful minds
That eagerly burst out

With unorthodox theories
And condescending tales
Blasphemy to propaganda
And unnoticeable details

I myself have wondered
Do these beasts and I share home
Do I keep them bound with chains
Or leave them free to roam

This is not a fairy tale
In my bewildered brain
Looking at the bright side
Has always been in vain

Are these monsters friendly,
Lonely souls without a friend
Or onset schizophrenia
With voices of the bitter end

Would one like to cuddle
Become a teddy bear of sorts
Or push away affection
And delight in sarcastic retorts

These tiny, harmless beings
The monsters of the mind
Are voiced through others bodies
And don't take kindly to mankind

They're the ones who forced you
To skip breakfast, lunch, and sleep
The ones who knock air from lungs
When you gasp and weep

Pass times include injecting doubt
At mere thoughts of love
Cringing at all forms of beauty
And mocking every sightless dove

If you've ever wondered
Why you tend to hate
Or ever even fathomed
Accepting Reaper's bait

You now know who to blame
It's not just you this time
Those monsters of the mind
Commit societies crime

These quiet, trifling beings
Never remain unspoken
You're the marionette
Whose strings remain unbroken

They all enjoy to mime
Every nonconforming thought
Leaving all your plaguing woes
As displayed toys left out to rot

But not all these monsters
Are as lurid as they may seem
The kind ones stay in corners
So I guess they too are mean

Also known as demons
Monsters of the mind
Are heinous, damaging
And better left inside

But another form of self-destruction
Is leaving them uncured
Attempting to ignore them
Means keeping them secured

Since you never speak directly
They left a little note
Nothing to be scared of
Just a well-intentioned quote

"Don't worry my sweet darling
We monsters are inclined
To make the world less bearable
So don't trouble your dear mind"
