Description
She heard hooves and stared at the hour-"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair"
She glanced from her tower
And there stood a prince charming so fair
"You're not welcome here or anywhere near"
She sang along with the birds
Then covered her face to brush off a tear
Only she knew those were empty words
With grief Rapunzel was laden
Prince charming distraught, he bowed down his head
"As you wish my fair maiden"
Then off in the sunset he fled
That's the fifth prince this week
To be turned away
And the evening looked bleak
As the sky turned to grey
The very next day she sat feeling ill
Massaging the temples that throbbed
She proceeded to swallow a little white pill
And held her gold hair as she sobbed
Locked in a tower and sick, oh so sick
She played with the birds to pass time
Her hair was brittle, no longer thick
She saw only them for they did not climb
One day in the tower
She glanced at the hour
And couldn't decide
Whether or not she had died
It was glowing like an angel
Numbers bounced across the room
It looked like the godliest spell
Then the hour hand turned into a plume
Like a dodo birds feather it was light as the air
She tried to touch one but her hand went right through
But right at this point she didn't care
Because it made her feel as though her time wasn't due
Like she didn't belong underneath this tower
As if her hair could hold a prince
If only she could posses the beauty of a flower
Not the skeletal figure that made her wince
Waking up was her only salvation
She lived everyday in a dream
Because each hallucination
Simply couldn't be unseen
With walls made of clouds
And mirrors of cotton
Invisible crowds
And logic forgotten
But her nights are filled
With beast ridden dreams
And her heart is instilled
By nightmarish screams
She turns down prince charming
Again and again
It's becoming alarming
How she looks now and then
She thought often of mother
And the witch she no longer saw
She thought often of father
And this left her mind raw
Now in a month's time she could no longer stand
An IV was responsible for pumping in life
The fallen princess couldn't have planned
That this early would come this much strife
She looked to her left at a pile of locks
As golden as a thousands suns
She looked to her right at the stool high box
And felt as though it shuns
She later was found, pale as white
Eyes closed at rest from wear and tear
Rapunzel hung herself that night
Tied in a noose, she let down her hair

This is really powerful. I often wondered what would happen in these characters had a serious illness. This was very well written, too.
