Swaying in the breeze
Running out like dragons breath
In mid air they freeze

Whiskey kisses on my breath
Teasing tips of tongues
Running yearly marathons
Escaping from my lungs

Lowlife in a rocking chair
Listening to my whiskey lullaby
Who wouldn't judge and stare
Into these drowsy, pitiful eyes

Coffee with a spike in taste
No one drinks the morning
Unless the point's to drown
A heartache truly scorning

A drunken stroll around the block
Burying feelings long not felt
In the fog of whiskey talk
Do thoughtful words slur and melt

Unsteady hands drop bottles
Shatters are whiskey chimes
And drunken notes
Are perfectionless rhymes

Bitter liquids do burn throats
Unsteady legs do drag down
Hallucinations of hugs and dolls
Earn another glass to crown

Shelves full of drinkable friends
Means cold and cobwebbed pockets,
Unfurnished homes,
And pictureless lockets

Frame lacking memories
With paint pealing
Splintered wood
And caressing hand bleeding

Whiskey whimpers through the night
Tossing, turning left and right
Nightmare ridden sleepless blight
Waking up in cold sweated fright

Stumble out of bed again
Yet another day
With no desire to talk
Let's see what the whiskey has to say

Whether it be a fairytale
A whisper, word, or hiss
It's the only thing left
That begs for a kiss

Be it a nightmare
Be it a dream
Live day by day
And rip at the seam

Opened eyes squint
Deciding to quit
So I raise a toast
To the last sip I permit

That tends to happen
Everyday
Resolutions lead
Astray

Adieu whiskey kisses
Goodnight and goodbye
But before passing out
I hear the whiskey lullaby:

Don't try to walk,
When the high ends
