I recently joined a group on Facebook that does monthly character design challenges; one month - one character - one theme.

For mid-May through mid-June 2015 the theme was Wizards and Witches.

Seeing as there was little by way of Asian rep thus far in the entries, I decided to go for just that (the following is a copy-paste of my Facebook entry).

Kuzunoha, the evil onmyoji.

I went for a modernized onmyoji - a practitioner of Onmyodo (in essence, Japan's most iconic magic system). The look I gave her was inspired by that of the infamous character Yasunori Kato from the novel "Teito Monogatari" , an immensely powerful onmyoji who attempted to tear Japan apart (a look that's inspired many; see M. Bison and Raidou Kuzunoha). Her name comes from the mythical mother of Abe no Seimei, Japan's most legendary onmyoji and the closes figure Japan has to a Merlin. She tends to prefer summoning shikigami to do her bidding, but is quite handy with a katana as well, after all one can't let anything get too close. The many pentagrams that decorate her gear are actually known in Japan as the Seal of Abe no Seimei, and she uses them to focus her energies.

This was a lot of fun, and i'm quite looking forward to the next theme.
