Description
Here it is, my final assignment (thesis work?) in Lybecker Institute of Crafts and Design.This little thing was my life from last December all the way to to the last days of May. I was supposed to upload this month ago, but unfortunately the original file was too big for DA, and I didn't have a film editing program of my own, so you can all thank my friend ~Drazca for letting me use her computer with Adobe After Effects. ^^
Animation, story, narration, voice acting and foaley artistness is by yours truly, the dog barks and growls in fourth scene are free sound effects and the music used was catalogue music, which licence belongs to Lybecker Institute of Craft and Design, and are free to use in projects within Lybecker.
In case you were wondering, the speech is in my mother tongue. That's what Finnish sounds like.
I am now officially diagnosed with animation. Oh, yeah!

Unfortunately this is all there is. I have a high resolution version of this on my own computer, but neither Youtube nor DA could handle it, so its quality was lowered, but there is no longer animation available. But the story goes on in a form of comic that I draw on my free time.

This is...so beautiful, and the animation is so smooth. It's kind of heart-wrenching, too.

The animation was incredible, but i kind of lost the plot around the middle of the movie. The bad dogs want to make the bright side of the world dark... and then?

At that point the narrating stops. The narrator tells the story from the dogs' point of view, which tells that the hounds are evil and stuff, but when the speech ends, the film shows a hellhound father being killed in a fight, and his mate and pups are left alone, one pup wondering where dad went, which was meant to turn the settings upside down.

Ah, thought there was a turning point at that momenta, but only withe the mother. Didn't got the killing of the father. So it makes sense now

Please tell me, what techniques did you keep in mind whilst working on this animation? I love how smooth and fluent the frames are. And what program did you use to animate in? Did you draw with classic pencil and paper? If so, what program did you transfer those pictures into to finish them off? (colouring, etc.)

The whole animation is drawn traditionally with pencils and paper. It was then colored in a program called Animo, but since Animo started to have serious problems and licence troubles at one point and it became a serious pain in the hind quarters, thus the animation was finally put together in Adobe After Effects. Some of the backgrounds were also hand painted traditionally, but in the end I was running out of time and had to make some of them in Photoshop.
(I'm not exactly sure about what you meant by 'techniques'. The medium used, or something more special? Sorry, my English fails sometimes.)

This video is in Youtube too. I had to upload it somewhere to show it to DA staff (to get the film submission rights). Now it's there only as it's subtitle-less version, though. I hid the subtitled version after it got stolen once.

Fantastic work. :0 Wonderfully animated. Just a question: what does 'traditional' animation mean? I know it's using traditional drawings (by hand): but do you use frames to animate it? (e.g stop motion)
Finnish is a really beautiful language, by the way. :>

In this case the "traditional" means that every single frame was hand drawn on paper, with ordinary pencils. There's no 3D graphics used. I was also supposed to do all the backgrounds by painting them traditionally, but in the end my schedule disagreed with me, and I had to make some with photoshop. The coloring and editing was done with computer.
And I'm glad you like my language. ^^ I thought about reading it in English at first, but decided that Wurr's first language should be Finnish (plus my English pronouncing sounds pretty bad).

This is amazing! First when i saw the whole 'OMG war-thing' i kinda thought 'not again..' But then the intro took another twist, and was just plain awesome. the pup in the end was a nice touch. Your animation is very smooth and beautiful. *rushes to go read the comic*
