Description

The story of Scheherazade originates from Middle Persian folklore, whereupon a king who was cheated by his first wife became so jaded and untrusting to women. He then decided to marry a virgin every night and beheaded them the day after, so they would have no time to be unfaithful to him. He sounds like a swell guy.

Anyway, this situation had been ongoing for 1001 days, which means 1001 women had died before Scheherazade, the vizier’s daughter decided to take matter into her own hands. Despite her father’s heavy objection, she requested to marry Shahryar the king.

Scheherazade didn’t come unprepared, in fact, she came very prepared; she had done countless research and preparation before she volunteered. At the night of the marriage, she told the king that she wished to tell a story to her sister, Dunyazade. The king granted her wish and Scheherazade told a story so enchanting and long that it could not be finished in the same night. The king, too engaged in the story, he decided to spare her life for one day so he could listen to the conclusion of the previous story. However, on the next night, Scheherazade would finish her story and begin with another one, and thus started the legend of One Thousand and One Nights.

She kept entertaining the king in this manner until night 1001, when she finished her thousandth tale, she confessed to the king that she had no more story to tell him. Thankfully the king had fallen in love with her during all these nights, and instead of beheading her, he decided to marry her and made her a queen. Forever happy end, I guess, if you can count marrying someone like that as a happy end

I decided to draw Scheherazade because I find her amazing, not only that she was brave enough to stop a madman killing virgin every night, she was also resourceful enough to have the ability to tell one thousands amazing stories continuously. Hats off to her.
