oh thanks man, i used alot of splatter. its really fun to play with, i'd like to do a comic with that technique when the opportunity arises.

Skulls and skeletons are both fun. For me they are on a short list of horses and cars, among things i can't draw very well though. haha

thats the trick man, just draw what you arent good at drawing and your drawing skills as a whole will improve. but i cant draw horses or cars either, cause, i never do. Haha. But skeletons are just too much fun!

if you've ever seen adventure time, they do a very simplified skeleton that could be a good inspiration for your style. kinda in the same vein as jack teagle.

The black in the background is so smooth. Like no flaws in it at all, even when I push the screen forward. How do you make it so nice?

Its much easier to see the brush strokes in real life, but the reason it looks so smooth is because I adjusted the levels in photoshop. whenever you scan inks into the computer, always adjust them with curves or levels in order to ensure that you are getting the best possible contrast to make your image POP. i see so many people who don't do that and it really does help.

This is a bit of a mystery then, since I already do that. I mean, my look clean and full on the PC, yes, but close inspection reveals imperfections in the black areas. I'm guessing it comes down to the quality of the scan, but I have no clue.

what tool are you using? that sky was brush with india ink. perhaps you need thicker ink?
i usually also go back and clean up my inks because I like my spot blacks solid.

yeah, brush pens are great! however, the ink they come with is rather thin, and trying to fill in a solid black space doesnt work very well. You should try a regular sable brush and some nice thick black ink.
I like my ink like I like my women, dark, wet, and from a foreign country.
