Imho, MacOS belongs in minefield of bs.

It really depends on how you look at it. MAC OS is nothing more than Unix really. So the look and feel of MAC OS is more equivalent to a DE than an OS, seeing as Unix is the actual OS. So to me that would be kind of like saying "well, just because I feel that GNOME and / or KDE and / or XFCE and / or ZORIN and / or UNITY and / or CINNAMON and / or ETC ... sucks, then Linux must also suck".

So granted, though I'm not a fan of Apple or its Desktop Environments, I can't ignore the fact that all MAC OS really is, is just Unix.

Just a historical point- Crapple stole almost all of its ideas from PARC and then Jobs hired a legion of lawyers and claimed ip ownership. What a sxxt. Sorry but all the adulation heaped on that thief just plain irks me.

Originally, yes. But the newer MAC OS is based on BSD Unix. The older MAC OS of course was absolute shit.

Ever notice Freeware(OpenOffice, Paint.net, for example.) works a hell of a lot better than the stuff you have to pay for?

Yes, I have. GIMP. Inkscape. Kdenlive. Blender. LibreOffice. OpenOffice. The list goes on. All equal to (at the very least) or more powerful than, their counterparts:  Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Sony Vegas Pro, Lightwave / Bryce, Microsoft Office.

Yes but...
Yes... You're right. There's really just no reason other than sheer procrastination at this point, I used to use Linux I just haven't since I changed computers last time I upgraded my system.

My only other suggestion (and its not a requirement, its just something you could do to trick things out a bit) is make sure that the drive that the VMs reside on, is a solid state drive. Now yes, solid state drives can be expensive -- however: the smaller solid state drives aren't all that bad. So you could probably find anywhere between a 60GB to 120GB SSD on a cheap deal. Another option is an SSHD (solid state hybrid drive). This is still a physical spin RPM style drive, but -- its cache is solid state, which does make a considerable difference in the data transfer rates. It also doesn't work as hard, so it doesn't run as hot. It also has the advantage of being cheaper. So a 500GB SSHD would probably run around the same price as a 60GB to 80GB SSD.

The rest of the drives in your system can then be, whatever. EIDE. SATA. Typical HDD. Whatever sizes, whatever does it for ya and however many.

Having an SSD or SSHD drive for the VM would simply boost performance during game play. I'm not saying game play will be shit without it, I'm just saying its a nice tweak.

My biggest problem with heat is my graphics card, I've been meaning to drill some holes for air flow, I never really have a problem with anything else running hot.

Depending on how much room is in the case. might wanna add a couple extra little fans while you're at it.

Valendale In reply to paradigm-shifting [2015-01-17 10:14:37 +0000 UTC]

Naw that'd potentially draw too much power, it's better to maximize air flow so that I need as few fans as possible to get the job done, besides fans have a tendency to make noise even when they're configured to run silently and noise dampening usually increases heat and reduces air flow.

I'm not sure what sort of super charged jet plane engine turbine you're speaking of, but I'm just talking about a standard, run of the mill, quiet, low powered cooling fan.
