My Neo-Victorian Keyboard.Featured on my blog at www.TheTentacleParadox.com
Ive always been a fan of mini sized keyboards for Ive never use the number pad thats typically on the right side. I also always hated the way traditional technology looks in contrast to all the antique furniture that adorns my home, so I always had keyboards hidden in drawers. So with this, my first SteamPunk keyboard project uses a mini USB keyboard measuring 12.5″ x 6″. This project took me well over a month to complete, with most of the time used on modifying the keyboard and typewriter keys.
Almost 2 full sets of vintage Typewriter keys were used along with a hand carved wooden space bar! The frame was carved from wood, and functional colored LED indicator lights were added to designate Caps Lock, Number Lock, and Scroll Lock activation. This keyboard has been designed so that if for some reason, the electronics ever malfunction or breaks, a replacement keyboard’s internals can be swapped out fairly easily and cheaply. The completed keyboard types very smoothly and I can touch type on it with no problems!

Now that is WONDERFUL! I can just see the steam powered 'computation machine' that goes with it. EXCELLENT! Very impressive and inspirational.

I noticed that too but I looked more into it it's actually a pretty common idea to make modern electronics look like that.

Theres a new show called Warehouse 13 or something like that, I think on the Sci Fi channel, the thrid episode comes out this coming up Tuesday, but in the show I believe one of the characters uses a keyboard fairly similar to the one here.
HERES THE LINK definitely a KEYBOARD, but you can see its old n uses typewriter keys.

Very cool. What is that beneath the keys? It looks like foam sheeting.

Wow, jealous here. I love the lock lights on top. Looks like what an 17th century keyboard would look, if they had computers I mean. Worthy of Da Vinci. Great job!

I'd price that thing at a grand at least. I wouldn't be surprised to see it significantly higher.

If you made more, you could make a fairy good business out of it I think Many people hate the contrast you mentioned including me. And it doesn't only apply to keyboards, also TVs and other such stuff...all black, silver or white, and that's it :/

Absolutely gorgeous. I've seen plenty of lookalike steampunk "keyboards" around in the Internet, but most of them just look like keyboards, not doing anything... What I always wanted was a fully functional keyboard with steampunkish/victorian look, and it seems you have created one... Maybe I should try to make one myself too. Along with a computer case of the same style and functionality.
