Description:

Haken is a locally bred grade water bar. She loves the ocean and throws herself into her job with single-minded persistence. Although her natural talents lie primarily in fishing and diving, and her original owners used her for this purpose only, since being purchased by the PFA, Haken has been trained to help FM015 with challenging rescues. She is not a social butterfly like her workmate, but like most barlaks she prefers to be with her own kind rather than alone if she can help it, so she's motivated to stick near Thunder and imitate him. Fortunately, cross-training was not difficult - Haken is quite smart and picks up new ideas rapidly, and she'll do a lot for a yummy piece of knifeback tuna meat, or a fresh moon mackerel.

While she lacks Thunder's stamina, she more than makes up for with sheer obsessive persistence, a trait that he completely lacks. Thunder is a good worker, but next to Haken, he can seem downright lazy. Although focused and difficult to distract while working, Haken appears to like the taste of her own adrenaline and will get herself in trouble if given half a chance. Her favorite games on her free time include deliberately swimming straight into large waves and allowing herself to be tumbled, rolled, and then thrown back ashore by the surf. If allowed, she will actually join a human on a surfboard, and the PFA's "surfing barlak" has become something of a local novelty.

As a foundation barlak, Haken has a lot to offer people working on fishing or diving lines, and her determination and focus serve her well when she is doing water rescues. She makes lovely pups, too; mated to Thunder, or to another PFA water bar called Neptune, she has a good chance of throwing full merles as well as cryptics. Merle is not a common marking, and she also has Cream, Silvering, even a subtle but attractive Claw Sheen. For aesthetics-oriented breeders, Haken is a real prize.
