Description Name: Bryony Thyme Callister
Sex: Female
Race: Horse Primali (Palomino with Frame Overo; right eye is blue)
Age: 25
Favored Outfits: Denim overalls or jeans with checked or plaid flannel shirts. She usually goes bare-hooved, having little need for shoes, though she does sometimes wear riding boots designed specifically for hooved people. Regardless of what else she has on, her favorite black cowboy hat and red bandana are almost always worn. The hat is invariably on her head unless she's taken it off for some reason. The bandana is often tied around her neck, but may also be hanging out of a pocket or tied around her forehead. Sometimes wears leather jackets and riding chaps when she's expecting to do a lot of saddle work. Any jewelry will be made of silver and semiprecious stones, or even wood. It'll always be tasteful and pretty, and often more expensive than it appears, but it'll still be a cheap piece compared to what she can afford in pure financial terms. She only wears gold and precious stones in small, tasteful ways, and then only when she's off the job. Given her hobbies, it's rare that she considers it "safe" to dress up. Although definitely a tomboy, Bryony does enjoy dressing up sometimes, but she reserves this for fancy parties and other special events. Most of the time her clothing is either practical or comfortable, or both.
Description: Bryony is the youngest scion of a large, wealthy Xesati family, the Callisters, who are well known in the meat ranching industry. They've been in Xesat a long time and have been ranchers and animal breeder that whole time. About as "old money" a family as folks in the Western USV can be. (In short,  they're "new money" to the really old families 'back East', but "old money" to the first-generation rich in Alter!Earth's equivalent of Los Angeles and Silicon Valley.) So Bryony grew up a working country girl, running with her family's barlaks as a child, able to saddle up and control a full-grown riding strider by the age of twelve, participating in 4H and winning prizes for well-raised girzan, baleboars, and zurrochs. However, Bryony was expected to follow a certain path in life, one that, frankly, didn't suit her. So, the day she turned 18, she ran away from home, taking only her savings, her strider, and her favorite barlaks. And the clothes on her back. That was it. She lived rough for a while, crossing the country on elainback, escorted by her beloved bars, a trio of savage but devoted herd guardians.

This was a challenging thing to pull off in modern times, but she spent some of her savings to buy an inexpensive but reliable smartphone, and used GPS to navigate around major population centers. Within a couple of weeks, though, she began to miss people and civilization. Turned out she didn't want to run away to the woods forever after all. But... well, now what? What did she want to do with herself? After some thought, she bought a train ticket to Ciriofalan, going by rail so she could bring her beasts with her. Most airlines simply do not carry elain as live cargo under any circumstances (for... understandable reasons.) She figured the coastal state was far enough away to dissuade her parents from trying to make her come home. She'd been in contact, using her phone, but only long enough to reassure her family that she was not, in fact, dead or kidnapped. Their reaction to her rebellion was unsupportive, to say the least, even if it was born of genuine worry for her safety and good intentions to secure her a "good future".

No matter how sincere and good their intentions, Bryony had no intention of following the same track as her siblings. Let her eldest sister, Rosemary, inherit the family business. Let the others take nice secure jobs working for Mom and Dad, and later, for Rosemary. Bryony Thyme had more interesting things to do with her life! Once she arrived in Ciriofalan, she discovered the cost of living was higher than she'd expected. Her savings wouldn't last forever anywhere, of course, but they'd last a lot less time here than she'd hoped. So Bryony found herself in need of a job. It so happened that the Parafauna Authority was hiring trainers and handlers at the time. Bryony was even able to negotiate boarding for her strider at the PFA's stable, and her salary was good enough that she was able to afford to rent a one-bedroom house in one of the smaller towns several miles outside the City, which allowed her to keep her barlaks. Bryony is now 25 and has earned a respected place in the PFA. She has been promoted to senior handler in charge of regional roundups - a mouthful of a title, but it's a job she enjoys and takes seriously. A talkative, social soul, Bryony is very happy with her job and her life. Her parents are still coming around, but they're proud of her for finding a job and working hard.

When people go to the Paradise City PFA branch office, and ask to take a look at the roundups, as often as not, it'll be Bryony who shows up to escort you to the pens. She's got strong opinions, and sometimes can't help expressing them, but her love of barlaks and other parafauna is sincere. She will do her best to be professional, even if she can't help making a recommendation or expressing tidbits of extra information. You may or may not share her taste in bars, but she does know what she's talking about, generally speaking, and will sincerely do her best to help you sift through the roundups to find the barlaks you want or need. Bryony doesn't approve of barlak fighting or other illegal pursuits, but she's also quite aware that people are gonna do what they're gonna do - she did, after all - so she maintains a "don't ask don't tell" policy. Lawbreaking doesn't really bother her, per se - it's animal cruelty she hates. She can't act without certainty, so she won't - but if she catches you actually being cruel to an animal, you can bet your ass will be reported. And it'll probably also get kicked. Though not much of a fighter as horse Primali go, her youthful, well-exercised body can literally kick like a horse, and her hooves are sharp and hard. This is not a lady that you want to be kicked by. Try to stay on her good side, or at least the neutral one.
