Description spyed : Supporting some fresh artists at the hotel cafe in hollywood, enjoying a bodingtons which I've not had in a while but should not forget again. I hope you are feeling creative, and inspired at the same time. Good things happen then.

He just laid off another 20 or so staff members with less than a days notice

Around this time last year, DA had almost twice as many staff members than it does now.

Many people on deviantART should see this.

Now this is a pure example of laziness.

I was going to say poor public relations, but laziness works too

That's because they really are lazy... The way they do things around here are careless too. They have no idea what there talking about.

Well, it seems like things are going to Boatmurdered fast. And yet I`ll stay in order to see his last swan song.

Accurate. Tonight was the first I'd heard of the news, and it was heartbreaking. :/ I knew a few of those guys pretty well. Thank you for sharing.

I'm wondering more and more if this is a sign that spyed is outsourcing the future code development.  Granted the team was already spread across the globe, but I'm wondering if he found a completely new set of cheap labor to do the code or something.

Anything's possible. It's getting to be like a reality TV show, where you wonder who will wind up getting kicked off next.

I get that deviantART is a 'business', but surely there comes a point where someone has enough money and would like to spread it around...

I think the decrease in revenue is a real phenomena. I've seen it in the decline in the core membership rate and the dropping Alexa score which indicates dropping banner ad revenue.  I don't think spyed is simply trying to boost his paycheck by laying off workers.  This third round of layoffs was likely prompted by the same situation that led to the previous two.  My bigger question is what lies ahead.  Is DA going to try to outsource their code development to cut costs?

I see...

that said, I really do think Spyed doesn't need to earn another cent. To live comfortably, that is.

That seems to be the sentiment from the old staff as well.  I've never though of DA as a particularly profitable platform to begin with (they don't do the aggressive sales tactics other social networks pursue, which is part of the reason I like it here), so I've never personally envisioned spyed as rich.  I'd be curious how this site would be managed with a different CEO though.

I think he owns a plane. xD

And see DxD's comment here - sounds like it is profitable for some. comments.deviantart.com/1/6144…

This is actually a very accurate representation of spyed. Derpy and highly retarded.

Sums it up well.  I feel a sadistic attitude from spyed in the way he just doesn't give any fucks.  So shameless.

But I might be wrong.

I've felt that way for a while, though I'm surprised the sentiment seems to suddenly be going mainstream.   I suppose most people were willing to overlook the hiccups along the way and even forgive the layoffs last year, but when history repeats itself, there's very little optimism to draw from.

History always repeats itself and when lies are being spoon fed and they're saying everything is fine and that they are listening when clearly they are not, that's when people see through their lies.

Hi guys,
In our last journal entry titled Thank you x 15000, I announced shutting down active operations for europeans, promising a follow-up explanation. A few months later, nothing has changed in the situation, and I am comfortable explaining you why I decided to shut down the group.
Please note: I might be going into great detail at times, because I still care a lot for the group.
Also, this journal will focus on the technical operations and downfall of europeans, rather than all the fun moments we had (like contests, devMEETs, #Europe). I will save the fun times for a proper eulogy, celebrating our happy moments, as we had plenty of those too.
Lastly, just in case, these views are my own, and do not reflect the entire europeans staff views, bot

That's a nice, although depressing, write up.  The reality of this second round of layoffs is starting to settle in for me.  It's one thing for a CEO to walk forehead first into a light pole by laying off a massive section of the company with no notice.  It's another thing when they do it twice.  I could see an inept leader, who has never had to make the tough choice of letting people go, take the easy way out the first time.  However, doing it multiple times makes it crystal clear he's trying to destroy the company for some perverse reason.  I'm rather concerned what this means for the long term for DA since I too have invested rather heavily in DA.

I'm not really sure if he's the right man to turn this ship around. Then again, I don't know who could

I just hope we are able to contribute to improving the site.

All in all, from a business perspective, it's a very tough challenge. I couldn't do it right now - I have insufficient experience.

I could assume that they moved on, many moons ago.
