Woah, another realistic Minecraft mob one day after the first! Yeah I’m feeling super motivated to get these out, and the first request from yesterday was a Creeper so here you guys go!

The Creeper was a bit difficult for me at first because I was struggling to figure out where I wanted to take it. I didn’t wanna make it a botched pig like the in-game backstory because then it would lose its silhouette, but I didn’t want a generic monster look either. After searching I stumbled on the theory that the Creeper is an explosive fungus and I fell in love with it. The legs and lower body are supposed to resemble thick tree roots, large tendrils that it uses to silently stalk towards prey, and they support the large explosive sack below its “head”. I was inspired by the look of the fungus “Pilobolus crystallinus” for the upper body, and the veiny glowing orb that explodes is directly from the plant, the little black spots floating around being it’s seeds (my idea for this is that the seeds are actually biological gunpower) which it deposits into hosts upon explosion. Also it’s head doesn’t actually serve a real purpose, just being a gnarled lump of root that counterbalances the body.
