When you are offended, ask yourself this simple question "Is it offensive? Or am I just sensitive?" if the answer is the latter, then move on; otherwise you most likely still are sensitive and just refusing to see it.

Why is a racist joke offensive? Because it's meant to be seen as offensive. If you ignore it or laugh at it, is it still racist? The word nigger comes from the Spanish word for black-skinned. It wasn't originally offensive, it is now.

It's not offensive because you're not the target of the racism. If you are actually African-American/Native American/Asian/Aboriginal/Hispanic/Arabian, you've just chosen to not care.

if you're the butt of a joke, you can either bitch about it or accept it, even be amused by it. it's no different for racist jokes than it is for jokes about any other aspect of a person. i don't think that the fact that it's racial should make it somehow more offensive and taboo just because it's talking about skin color other than some other feature.Β
but that's just my opinion. i don't make race jokes unless i'm joking about myself or i know that the person i'm joking about is fine with it, because i'm not about to get into an argument because someone's got their panties in a twist over a harmless joke. but i think humor is an all or nothing thing: you can't make some jokes wrong just because you're too sensitive about it.
