Thanks for such an amazing conceptual piece! I am a 2-time survivor of intentional overdoses, and i am now VERY glad they didn't work. This happens because people put blinders on their eyes concerning suicide, drug use, abuse, and intentional self-injury. If we just took a step back and remembered that those are people, and that those people are important, then maybe we could save them. Keep up the great work!

I did a relook on that statistic and the thing about the age is that most of the ones under the age of 25 who committ suicide are men.
It is probably the only thing that men are better at. Men are 4 times more likely to committ suicide than women, even though women attempt it more.

If a girl injests pills the world falls to her aid but ,if it were a guy no one gives a dam...no one ever does. Then again a lady out in Brakettville,TX drove off (Ranch to Market 639) a cliff and left behind a baby daughter all due to post pardum.

I geuss its because of this whole male image thing, that men are supposed to be these independant beings, completely free from emotional ties and that if we're struck down by some emotional crisis, everyone says, "Take it like a man."

*correction Ranch to Market 674 .Yanette Martinez was heading south bound from Rocksprings to Brackettville and successfully drove of the edge of the road and to her death. She was found a week later. An investigation demonstrated that she had committed a successfull suicide due to post pardum ...

Yeah. I have to admit that when a woman commits suicide it does feel more tragic, but it doesn't seem like there's any of that same sentiment when a man does it.
Probably because women are thinking, "One less man to deal with."

she was also 30.On the men success thing where does that put Steven Hawking,or Walt Disney,or Eugene Roddenberry,or David Levy,or Eugene Shoemaker,or John Pual II or Chuck Jones ... do you mean to tell me that in order to be smart I have to commit a succesfull suicide? Is that the way you rate people's success by gender? BTW I do have my female heroes too: Heidi Hammel,Caroline Herchel,Sue French,Caroline Shoemaker,Wendy Levy plus many other successfull women in the sciences.I mean success measured by suicide what the hell?
