Yeah, there's been a lot of talk (Radio4) about this movie. Mixed reviews. Have to see it and make my own mind up I guess!

from what I heard, it was actually kind of racist. Despite a black freedom fighter main character, it still generally stars white people, with black people in supporting roles. Also, the movie uses plantations and slavery like a convenient setting, the problems of slavery reduced to nothing more than a geographical backdrop, and neglecting to show the effects of slavery on both the character and African Americans in general. Furthermore, it's historical inaccuracies white wash some of the racial problems at the time. However, this is just some of the complaints I've heard, I haven't seen it myself, I'm also not black and would likely have some difficulties really catching a lot of the problems anyway, being in a privileged position of detachment from such things.
