Description 1on1- IRA is not 1 on 1 fighter, but their sling still SUCKS. NO MORE SLINGS!
2on2- Happened to Knight vs Pirate. How does horse not get hurt by grenado?
3on3- Ballistas are a type of catapult
4on4- Swat had an unused driver, so did Al Capone. Watch the matches.
5on5-
Madness?- This is Sparta!

Ok, I guess William can use catapults in squad fights but i don't know how effective it was cause they DONT show the kill tallies

And i'm not doing 63-1 or 189-3 for zomb/vamp, besides it needed more zombies.

That show is full of fail, isn't it.

Oh yeah another for the pros list
Armor penetration, go loose rocks at thick scraps of sheet steel, with proper technique, and say it doesn't work on armor. Now go buy some big ass lead shotgun slugs or buckshot, or melt down aluminum cans to make metal ammo out of that with a mould, if you can't disassemble bullets, and loose those on a scrap steel plate target with a pouched sling. Yes bypassing the armor with a headshot would be best but most times you don't have that option hence the whole ranged weapon class, these things are made to be as far from the guy with the sword, axe, club, or chainsaw as possible.

Slings are not as bad as you think they are.
Pros:
Infinite ammo or as much as you can carry.
Easy to make, repair and use.
Training times are not as long as you might think, I could hit a chair's back (Comparable to a human torso) about half the time at the peak of my accuracy.
Durable as hell.
Light as hell, as in, oh you can't climb up that wall with that 10 pound assault rifle on your back? I ran up this wall easy.
Can be used for more than just a weapon. Need a belt to hold up your pants? Sling does that. Need a rope to save your friend? Sling does that too. Warning, I am not responsible for your pants falling off because you didn't think to get or braid an actual belt.
The parts grow on trees, literally, can you say the same for gun parts?
Silent, if you braid it correctly and not like a whip, you know tappering it down so it cracks.
Cons:
Not the most powerful when are going for accuracy. (I am only starting to use proper form accurately so a compromise can be reached between accuracy and power.)
Single Shot, the fire rate isn't bad either when technique is used but I have found it to be not as good as a gun.

All in all our first weapon is really not that bad if you're considering guerilla warfare
Don't get me started on sling shots which are what the IRA really used.
This information comes from an actual slinger if you want to form your own tests search "sling" on deviantart, select the section basketry and weavings and click on a picture. Note I am not responsible for you being stupid with this information, only you can use your brain.

Slings are not bad as a weapon of war for the time period it was used (ancient times) but it is designed for volleys into enemy armies, NOT individual fighting. Alexander the Great used slingers effectively, so the fact that he would even use these warriors shows their worth. But other than David vs Goliath, the sling was rarely useful in one on one combat. It's an inaccurate weapon that can only kill in a headshot.

I have broken modern furniture pretty thoroughly just through target practice with rocks. Go braid and practice with one and you'll see.

I'm NOT stupid, okay? I'm just saying the sling is easy to carry, and it has been known to take down a GIANT in one blow!

Well... Slings may not match up against better weapons but as a last resort, a piece of string and infinite ammo isn't too bad.

Warrior536 In reply to Jensaw101 [2010-07-25 02:13:05 +0000 UTC]

yeah but the problem is, you can shoot 1000 of those stone, if the guy has armor none of these will do anything. Slings are great for fighting unarmored enemies like the apache, but against armored foes like the Spartan or the Knight, forget it pal.

true but it is a similar concept to war of the worlds book. As a last resort, why not? You could get lucky. Human weapons didn't effect the tripods but they didn't just drop their weapons.

didnt the aliens just died from an earthling disease in that book? beside, it took them what, a month or so to get rid of the aliens. A battle using ancient weapons isint gonna last this long.

Jensaw101 In reply to Warrior536 [2010-07-26 05:37:26 +0000 UTC]

That isn't the point. The concept is the same. If you have nothing better then you're still going to use what you have rather then just give up. The one in a million chance that your pellet goes into the eye slit is better than the 0% chance that you win.

yeah but youre gonna need mad luck. But its not the point, you could kill an armored knight with a butter knife if you were lucky enough to throw it right in its eye slot. in battle, you must leave the less possible to luck so bringing a weapon which the killability depends on luck is suicide. I rather bring something which usefullness is garantee with skill like a bow which you can aim for lowly armored part (like a Spartan's arms or a Knight's legs (knights wore SOME plates on legs but mostly has chainmail in order to improve their mobility))

The only issue we're still debating is that you seem to think people may just as well not bring a ranged weapon if it is going to be a sling. My point is that a sling is better than nothing.

CaptStrife [2010-06-27 07:44:17 +0000 UTC]

I think the sling gets a bum-rep from this show, but all things considered, it is no match for a bow and arrow so I don't even know why they bother.

As for the 4 on 4, the SWAT driver does actually fight (I've watched it many times X_X). However Al Capones driver as well as the Somali Pirate boat guy don't.

Yeah, kind of weird that Season 2 have 4 vs 4 fights. I mean, they immediately go back to 5 vs 5 in the latter half of Season 2, so I really don't get the point of that whole 4 vs 4 fight set up. Also, I suppose you do got a point, but slings are better in volleys. Just one stone flung by one sling isn't that accurate on itself. Heck, the same can be apply to bows and arrows as well since when they make it rain, many arrows are better than just one.Β
