For anyone in the comments demonizing an ex boyfriend/girlfriend:
There's nothing wrong with being friends, especially when a relationship gets confusing and people have to take a step back. It can help an immense amount with putting your losses into perspective. What did I want out of this relationship? What did they want from me? What do I really care about? Should I just be able to enjoy hanging out with this person?
It may hurt, but it's not a personal attack. When two people have autonomy, they are bound to walk different paths even while traveling in the same direction.
It's important to understand:
They're not just saying things to hurt you. They're a human being with their own life-- don't be selfish and try to cling onto a free bird like an avian louse. You're a bird too. Pecking at people can get annoying. Fly and see the world instead!

Yeah, friends... Which means "I'll use you like a BF but will never let you close". Run, Forest, run! She's an Alien in human disguise.
The fun thing is people often switch roles in a few years. Such an irony. She then needs support, she realizes he provided it. And lust won't last anyway. Have sex once, twice, a year. Then she grows up and sees the handsome one withers, he has awful habits she used to put up with for this candy. But the fact she picked him means HE doesn't like her as much. So he dumps her and she crawls back to the only one who understood her. He wasn't as hot but he was ready to give her everything, sparing not himself.
And now he has a family with another, a kid. He learned to not hurt because he has been hurt. And everything is at it's place. Shallow person gets punished, kind and patient one gets love. The universe balances everything perfectly. Thank it for the lesson. After all, why would you need someone who can hurt you so selfishly? Yes, that "let's stay friends" is a good thing. It hurts. But you'll understand some time soon. ^__^
