Description You know... in the third Inuyasha movie... Inu-papa dies... in a burning building. Why did they figure they needed to do that, when the manga already stated that he was killed by Ryuukossei? So, this is just me saying "HA!" to the anime writers, in a lame attempt to give Inu-papa a slightly better death scene. Thus was born my very first piece of dramatic fanart ever. I actually spent a whole week and a half on this thing, but it mostly took that long because I only worked on it maybe an hour at a time. I'm so lazy.

I don't usually put any sort of descriptive background on my images, either, so this was a first for me, too. The Ryuukossei in the background was just traced off a screenshot, since, like I said, I'm lazy and I don't usually do backgrounds.

Yes, he did die from his wounds in his battle with Ryuukossei, but he used the last of his strength to save InuYasha and his mother.

You know, I also find it kind precious that Inutashio's last request was really InuYasha's name. He's given so much to his son, and InuYasha, himself, hasn't even realized it.

Did they ever say his real name Or is it really Inutaisho? Nice work by the way, it been awhile since I've watched Inuyasha, but I thought they said he died of the wounds Ryuukossei gave him during the battle, which your scene above shows beautifully.

Patches365 In reply to Wulfgear [2012-01-14 03:22:29 +0000 UTC]

No, his name is never given. "Inutaisho" is a misspelling of his title, "Inu no Taishou".

He died in the fire as a result of the wounds he got from Ryuukossei.
It's why he couldn't make it out. He went straight from the battle field to Izayoi. If I remember correctly there was a risk of the guards killing her Inu-baby or some such "demons are evil" nonsense.

Patches365 In reply to CuteButDeadlyInu [2010-03-21 12:59:21 +0000 UTC]

The problem is that the third movie tries to pretend it's not totally disregarding the manga's established backstory by mentioning the wound given by Ryuukossei, but shoots itself in the foot with Myouga's line: "Master, the wounds you received from Ryuukossei haven't healed yet!"

Why would Myouga in the manga attribute Inu-papa's death to Ryuukossei's wound when in the movie he had the expectation for that wound to heal? In the movie, Ryuukossei's wound was simply a handicap that made him incapable of defeating Takemaru later. Therefore, Ryuukossei's wound wasn't what caused his death, it was merely a factor in determining it.

Since Takahashi has no input on the movies, I generally interpret them as having no relevance to the interpretation of the series and piece the story together as though they don't exist. If there's a contradiction between the movies and the manga, I don't try to reconcile them, I just throw the movie interpretation out.

Black-Wren [2010-01-10 11:05:04 +0000 UTC]

Well he was killed by Ryuukossei, he had died from the wounds inflicted upon him by that demon. In the movie Myoga is trying to dissuade Inu no Taisho from going to Izayoi because his injuries from the battle with Ryuukossei were not healed. Inu no Taisho replied first that couldn't afford to lose Izayoi and second he wasn't long for this world. In other words he was already dying so there was no point in hesitating. I imagine that's why he didn't grab Izayoi and run when the wounded Takemaru appeared. He didn't have to stay and fight. Since he was already dying he was making certain to eliminate this last enemy to Izayoi and his son.

That aside. I love your picture!

Hmm wait,I don`t think the anime producers did a mistake,at least not entirely. From what I remember they said his father died from INJURIES he got from fighting Ryukotsei, and in the beginning of the third movie we see that he`s bleeding but we`re not told why.So my guess is he`s bleeding because he had just been fighting Ryukotsei before sealing him and rushing off to catch Inuyasha`s birth, and met Sesshomaru along the way.Wouldn`t that be correct?

Patches365 In reply to silversanta [2009-10-12 21:32:26 +0000 UTC]

You have to remember we're picking apart another language's grammar here. If Myouga had said, "Ryuukossei killed your father", it comes with the implication that Ryuukossei had "won" the battle. Because it was a stalemate, the wording was "the injuries your father received from Ryuukossei caused his death."

The problem, though, is that his injuries from Ryuukossei are not what ultimately killed him in the movie, it was the collapsing building. Yes, I know people say, "But if he hadn't had those injuries, he would have survived!" While this is true, it would be stupid to still list those injuries as "cause of death". It would be like if a person with terminal cancer caught pneumonia and died. While it is likely that they would have survived if it weren't for the cancer and that the cancer would have eventually killed them anyway, you would not say that this person died of cancer. They died of pneumonia.

The only way to reconcile the movie's version of events is if Myouga decided that "death by burning building" wasn't exciting enough so fudged with his retelling of history.

I've always thought this picture well-done. Dad looks so small, and Sesshoumaru looks so fragile.

I've always thought that Sesshoumaru must have been driven wild by the idea that Ryuukossei was just lying there, dormant rather than dead, because no-one had the strength to avenge Dad's death.

He clearly didn't think he had his father's strength for him to be chasing after Tessaiga like that. He was the oldest son, yet Ryuukossei's act remained unavenged, which has always said to me that Sesshoumaru felt he was incapable of addressing the situation. As a result, I've always thought it was a major part of why he was obsessed with obtaining Tessaiga.

I can't imagine the situation sat well with Sesshoumaru at any rate. And I think it makes the Bakusaiga arc quite sad as well as ironic - that he's had the strength inside himself all this time without realising it, but had travelled so far down the wrong road in trying to unlock that strength that he couldn't do even the most basic thing of avenging his father's death.

true...why did they DO that!!!! i mean wouldn't it be more dignifying (i'm gonna sound like sesshomaru now) For him to die at the hand Ryokotsusei?? and not by the hand of a human in a burning building!!? (wow that was reeeeaaaallllyyyy Sesshomaru-ish) manga's a somehow always better then the anime Oo

This is just... awesome!! I love the idea! To show Sesshomaru obviously a bit distraught over his father's death like this is truly touching. Especially after him being so cold with the subject in the series. I so wish I had thought of it... Beautiful job! You're truly a magnificent artist. ^v^

Great pic!!!

It wasnt the fire that killed him it was the wound Ryuukossei gave him. All they ever say it Ryuukossei killed him and he did inu-papa was gonna die wither he went to inu-mama's aid or not. If he had not been wounded he would have lived to see inuyasha grow.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Patches365 In reply to YamiyoTenshi [2009-02-22 19:35:10 +0000 UTC]

That's like saying that if someone with terminal cancer is hit by a car and killed, that they still died of cancer since they were going to die, anyway, the car just helped it along.

The only way for movie 3 to maintain that he died of the injury from Ryuukossei was to have him survive the fire unscathed and then die of that wound later.
