Cartoons have come a long way since the 80's. Whoever the hell came up with InuYasha as an animated character must have been insane. It takes about half an hour just to colour one drawing of him in the computer.

**Giggles!**

Well, in fairness, the pup's had to deal with the American Cartoon censorship ... I mean, it used to be Dungeons and Dragons was the most violent cartoon of its time period.Β  It would be about five years or so before I remember Thundrecats taking over.Β  And still it was fairly tame like most 1980s cartoons.Β

More like all cartoons, but well...

I tend to dislike how peoples have a certain rose tingedness nostalgia about the 80s cartoons by example. There was the open consumerism who started many of those classics, by example... Glorified (if well made and all this) ads for toys, if you look at it closely... I grew up in that decade and the 90s.

XD I'm probably going to be gutted with hate for this comment, but the Jackalman in the new Thundercats cartoon seems pretty... Crazily horrifying. XD Like, homicidal maniac.

I agree. And I will tell you why that made the new Jackalman into a crazy homocidal maniac, because the old Jackalman was too damn cute and practically harmless. Remember He tried to take over third earth with that mole dude and the driller? Three people are supposed to conquer a whole planet? How does that work?

XD It doesn't. At all. It just makes little girls like I was 'D'aaaaw!' and wish they had a Jackalman plush to cuddle while watching him be all cute and harmless and "evil."

I'm not sure I follow, cuz I don't know your stance exactly. Are you FOR evil villains becoming tame and docile, or against? I'm lost there, but also Inuyasha is not a villain any more than Wolverine, Mr. T, or Dirty Harry. Those guys, like The Shadow or Batman, are serious bad asses who are heroes like Inuyasha.

But I definitely agree with you though, that cartoons AND comic books ain't what they used to be. I just couldn't follow on where you stand. Anyhow, this was a fun thing to look at still.

actually inuyasha was a manga first then he got animated.
i advise you to readmostly the manga first because some scenes in anime are edited
some scenes that took in the manga has been left out. and they make new scenes because they think it would sell better.

you should watch elfen lied and ineko thats more cruesome then InuYasha is trust me.

For as much as I enjoyed much of the 80s and 90s stuff, Inuyasha does have a point; Jackalman is really just a joke. It's hard to take him seriously as he poses no threat whatsoever. I mean really, he's too much of a coward with no balls or guts at all. In fact, he's more comic-relief than anything. As for this thing about comitting mass slaughter and being a sex-symbol. Well, it's possible to be both at once; you can be a feirce warrior, and be handsome at the same time. It especially helps to have some attention for it.

PS: I think Inuyasha means more spesifically; "Go back to the 80s loser! You suck!"

Jackalman: "You comitted mass slaughter, AND you're a sex symbol!!?"

Inuyasha: "Yes, I am"

Not only does Inuyasha make this 80's villen look like a teady-bare, But the Inuyasha's the "GOOD GUY" in his series

Patches67 In reply to Mauser712 [2008-04-24 02:45:46 +0000 UTC]

Good point. But in 80's when I was a kid watching cartoons, it was pretty much a no-no to slay ANYTHING in afternoon cartoons, demons or not. GI JOE fired thousands of rounds of ammunition per episode and no one ever hit a damn thing. He-man swung that sword around like a muscle bound Julianne Fry making machine, never chopped a soul with it. And don't get me started on Transformers. You'd think giant robots two stories tall carrying blasters as big as battleship guns would cause a little collateral damage? Such was not the case.

Mauser712 In reply to Patches67 [2008-04-24 02:53:40 +0000 UTC]

My favorite example was the Rambo cartoon, where Rambo shoots a tank with a bazooka, and the Crew immediately scrambles out of the hole he just blew in the tank, unharmed.

But it continues today, were the world "Kill" is banned, substituted every time with the word "Destroy." Which is worse, if you really think about it.

While Jackelman is there he might as well play a trumpcard.
He could invite Inuyasha back to the 80's to learn how to kill an immortal, by using Mumra as his target.

Haha, funny^^
And how exactly did you make the background?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Patches67 In reply to ArucardPL [2007-09-23 21:54:18 +0000 UTC]

The background is a screen capture from Spirited Away. I spent so much time colouring InuYasha by the end of it I wasn't in the mood to draw a noodle hut. So I plunked in Spirited Away and cut to the scene where Chihiro's parents first find that restaurant and found one scene where the background is nearly blank.

My strength is in drawing figures, not backgrounds. So a library of DVD's provides a great deal of shortcuts for finding quick background images. Mostly I use them to have a background actually taken from the show or movie of the fanart I'm making because the colours match so well. Here's some examples of other toons I made using screen captured backgrounds.
