Description
After the abrupt end of his childhood rivalry with the vanished Zim, Dib's sanity becomes increasingly unstable, convinced that his nemesis has gone to reconvene with the impending Irken Invasion. His teenage years are spent on a cocktail of medications and with an army of therapists before he calms and accepts that everything he remembered of Zim and the Paranormal were just inventions of his own mind created to distract himself from the loss of his mother. He focused on his studies and 'real science', Professor Membrane giving his son a position at his lab where he could make himself useful and keep himself occupied. One evening the Professor takes his son aside and takes him down to one of the highest security, deepest underground basement levels and offers his son an apology. The Government had released a top secret project to his laboratories a week ago; a captured alien life-form. Dib is shown a small green alien suspended in a bubbling, liquid-filled specemin capsule with myriad electronic sensors, tubes, wires and pipes inserted into it's flesh and a long, surgical-stapled incision running up it's belly and chest. Professor Membrane explains that he would like to offer the project to Dib by way of an apology for not taking his childhood aspirations in good humour or really being there as a father figure at all. He also stresses that although aliens are obviously real (now supported be physical scientific evidence) that it doesn't mean that Dib really went to school with an alien and that he should keep on taking his medications like a good lad.
Dib recognized the alien as the long-lost Irken Invader Zim. On the way home to his apartment in his car, Dib is listening to a rock music station that plays the occasional 'retro classic'; this evening it's Bryan Adam's 'Summer of 69'. As Dib sits there in traffic listening to the lyrics, he realises that when he looks back now, at school when Zim validated his beliefs and gave him something to channel his inventive genius towards; those were the best days of his life. He decides that Zim really was the closest thing he'd ever had to a real friend, and that seeing his childhood buddy mangled by exploratory vivisection makes him feel angry.
He decides that he's going to release Zim; beginning a whole new set of adventures.
Just a little comic concept with art
ZADR fans should check out the lyrics to Catatonia's "Mulder and Scully" on Youtube; its Dib-tastic.
Also, check out the video to PAIN's "Shut your mouth"; particuarly the conversation at the end. It's like realism ZADR, if it were set in Sweden.

Reminds me of a ZaDr fanfic I wrote called "Crossing the Line."
Dib finally succeeds in capturing Zim, but when he turns Zim over to other people- scientists -and sees what's being done to him, he comes to realized that he crossed a line; that he and Zim should have always been at each other's throats, not handing one another off to other people. It should have stayed between them, as enemies and rivals.
Awesome picture. I like how nervous Dib looks. Wonder how Membrane will react when he finds his son and the alien gone...?

LOL! No, but I'll accept this compliment happily
I decided I needed to practise drawing comic storyboards and pannels, inking and colouring in photoshop before I started trying to do Tadis and Cahal's graphic-novel thing. I have chosen the Invader Zim sandbox to do my experimenting/playing in >:3
I've pretty much done most of the first page for this; I should have it online by friday, monday at the latest

Aww, now I'm all excited and anticipatory.
Also, I MISS YOU. Higher education is great and all but it eats me. I end up not arting much and what art I do have never makes it to the net. I imagine you're having similar trials, eh?

Not anymore I'm not! I've finished my Masters now and I'm just waiting for my graduation day next month. I'm free and easy now until such a time as I decide when/if to take a doctorate.
It does eat your time alive and swallow it whole though, I hear you there

O_O ENVY.
But does this mean there may be more of you about?
You might be vaguely interested to know that I'm finally pursuing that ancient plot I had back when you were still on Sylv, where Karasu has babies. Should be fun to see where that goes.
You should go back there sometime! Water and I would be all giddy.

I'll see what I can do, but now I'm a working girl and I need to pay off my many thousand pounds of educational debt. I've got a job and I keep getting given overtime (which is good) but it does mean I'm here there and everywhere.

Well, yeah, okay, that's understandable.
Overtime is exhausting.
