Description
FULL VEIW IS ESSENTIALI painted this a while back, last year in the end months for a prestigous art show called the Evening of Excellence. Of all the art entered in this show only 25 would be chosen as the top pieces in the exhibit. These 25 would then be auctioned off to art collectors or whatnot in attendance at the auction, and the proceeds would be turned towards the Education Foundation.
Sadly, and happily, I won in the top 25, and this tiger fan that I love so much is being donated now for auction. It's a bittersweet thing. And I guess now this makes me something of a philanthropist. Either way, pictures are all I'm going to have of this fan for the rest of my life and I hope you will enjoy them.
First time ever painting on canvas for me; I created nearly everything about this fan, aside from the tassles. My teacher made those for me. Anyways, I painted the tigers face on a half circle of canvas with a radius of 18 inches, using many, many colors that the picture cannot give justice to. The fan is not small. Then, I got the wood sticks and sanded them down at one end, splayed them out in the array I wanted and woodglued them together. Next, I painted them a dark, dark red to accent the tiger's eyes. Next I glued cardboard backing to the back of the canvas and then glued the canvas onto the fan frame. All that remained was the tassles. Those were done by my teacher, but were naturally my idea. They are a golden cream to compliment further the tiger's eyes.
This was greatly influenced by my love of asian cultures and their fans. And, of course, Tigers. So titled because I could not think of a good name for this and so was like "the name must be a secret." Hence, Himitsu is "secret" in Japanese.
Enjoy.

Hey, I remember this! It was one of my favorites - very creative by using the fan, and the painting itself was lovely. Particularly the eyes. ~<3
If I heard right, I think the mom of a friend of mine/ former morning carpool bought it. 8D

... that is amazing! nice job I really like those eyes, they're so pretty >.< the shading is great in the eyes and the fur, and all the colors nearly overwhelmed me. it's too bad it's being auctioned off =.= it woulda been great to have seen it in real life when I actually meet you *nodnod* but it's very nicely done

*rolls over*
Yeah, I wanted to make them not auction it off... and I didn't want to win in the top 25 for that reason too, but it did any ways so now I gotta give it up.
I suppose I can always make another....

Thank you very much, I worked hard on those eyes and that fur. My teacher about had a seizure when she saw me repaint the eyes a few times... .. it was funny.
