She's very go-with-the-flow and doesn't stress very often.
She enjoys the smaller things in life and stops to smell the flowers...probably more than she should.

She is a fierce warrior and when she needs to use her claws to protect someone, she will.

 Adventurous
She enjoys exploring and finding new things! One of her favorites is secret places.
She also enjoys it just for the journey itself...or the story that will result.

 Humorous

She's very careful to only say or do things that others are comfortable with, and if she scares or hurts someone, she apologizes profusely and makes it up to them.

PatchyFallenstar In reply to ??? [2014-04-22 20:32:10 +0000 UTC]

"I know that feeling, except I had both Barleyleap and Timidbreeze giving me baths...sometimes in the same day! I couldn't have gotten my fur messy if I'd tried." It was true for the most part, though Kestrelpaw never had any urges to get super dirty in the first place, not like Saplingpaw at least. She purred at the memory of a time when her brother had wandered into a bush and had gotten caught in a cobweb, and the fuss that Barleyleap and Timidbreeze had made over him.

"Wow," Birchkit considered the idea, it was a bit like having two mothers, and one really was enough. It was difficult to imagine Kestrelpaw with a messy pelt though, a scuffy one perhaps, but the idea of there being mud or parts of tree in her fur didn't really make sense in his head. He never really got dirty anyway, but Puddlekit never failed to come home covered in mud, even on the driest of days she'd still find a way to get dirty.

He was actually trying to phrase out a question at the moment, but kept getting flustered every time he came close. He wanted to know if it was possible for him to build his nest beside her's when he became an Apprentice, but he was worried that she might not like the idea.

(eeeeeeeee oh my gosh Birchy is such a cutie ;u; )

Kestrelpaw sighed happily, "Yeah, but I guess I can't really complain. They both took good care of me, so that's all I could ask for. Besides...Timidbreeze has her own kits to worry about now. Have you seen them yet?" She didnt mean to change the subject so suddenly, but she was really excited about the new arrivals of the Clan, especially since she'd been there for their kitting.

((He's just shy~ Birchkit: I-I'm not shy... I'm being considerate)).

"Umm... yeah I've spoken with Cottonkit, but I haven't seen the others yet, I thought she might be tired so I didn't want to bother her." He'd heard some rumors that ever since the kits had been born Timidbreeze and Fallenstar had been experiencing some sort of tension with their relationship, so she would probably want some space and time alone with her kits for now.
He blinked, "Oh yeah, I heard you went to get Fallenstar from Pebbleclan when the kits were coming, what's it like over there?"

"Eek!" Kestrelpaw squeaked. -"It was so scary. PebbleClan territory is so weird--there is like, no trees. Just a lot of grass and rocks and sky." She shook out her pelt with the memory, she felt so unprotected, so vulnerable in such a vast open space. "I didn't even get to look around, all I saw were cats fighting and screaming."

sparkeythehamster In reply to PatchyFallenstar [2014-04-22 22:03:54 +0000 UTC]

"No trees?" This alone was a shock to Birchkit, as he'd imagined that everywhere had trees, even if there were only a few, what sort of cover did you have without them?
He felt a worried twinge in his chest when he thought about his dad over in Pebbleclan, he was an idiot and would probably get himself hurt. His father was on a prisoner run and had already brought someone back, a grumpy she-cat called Shellfur, Springkit had been telling everyone about how she'd almost bitten his head off when all he'd done was say 'hello'. While Birchkit expected there had been more to it than that, it didn't change the fact that he wasn't awfully keen on getting that close to the Pebbleclanner, she'd scratched his dad's nose.

"None!" Kestrelpaw mewed. "I mean, like, there were like one or two, but hardly enough for cover or...or anything! I don't understand PebbleClanners." The subject of the PebbleMoon war was a touchy one, as not everyone was on board with the plan. Kestrelpaw wondered what Birchkit thought of the feuding Clans, but she kept her mouth shut, afraid to offend him.

"Weird," Birchkit shook his head, not that he had any argument with Fallenstar, but why Moonclan would want a place that sounded so ill-suited to their needs was beyond him, he sort of understood the Dawnclan one, but he wasn't really sure he followed with their Leader's logic here.
"Have you spoken with any of the prisoners?" He asked, wondering if Kestrelpaw had been brave enough to approach one of the cats in the growing number of Pebbleclan prisoners in the camp.

Kestrelpaw shook her head, glancing over her shoulder in the direction of where the newcomers were stationed, wide-eyed and trembling. "Not yet," she muttered. "I'm..." she didn't want to say 'scared', per se, as she was trying to look brave and mature in front of Birchkit. "I'm too busy with uh...training and stuff. And I don't like the way they smell, anyway."

sparkeythehamster In reply to PatchyFallenstar [2014-04-24 08:56:21 +0000 UTC]

He did have to agree with her there, they did smell funny, it was an odd watery and repulsing smell that the Warriors never seemed to mention, he supposed they were just being polite. He wondered if all Pebbleclan Cats smelled like that or if the ones they'd brought back were just particularly strong smelling ones.
But he was impressed with the amount of training Kestrelpaw seemed to be doing, "who's teaching you while dad's away?" He asked, realising that with Hazefire out of Camp, somebody else must be helping her out with her hunting and battle practice.

"Oh! I went on a patrol with Barleyleap, and Mosspaw and Saplingpaw," Kestrelpaw explained, smiling. The time spent with her mother and littermates was fun. "I mean, I guess it wasn't really a patrol as much as just an excuse for family time, but I caught a robin!" She gestured with her tail to where the brown-and-red bird lay on the Fresh Kill Pile. "I went out with Frogpaw earlier, too. We gathered some moss for the elders."

"Wow" Birchkit's eyes widened with amazement as he thought of Kestrelpaw bringing back an actual piece of fresh-kill with her, and it was nice to hear that she still got to spend time with her family even after becoming an Apprentice.
"You have a really nice family by the sound of it, I actually kind of sorry I haven't chatted with them more" he admitted, with a twitch of his ear, "they sound nice."

PatchyFallenstar In reply to sparkeythehamster [2014-04-29 19:53:43 +0000 UTC]

"Yeah...They kind of keep to themselves," Kestrelpaw shrugged, wondering briefly why that was. Barleyleap had retired from her warrior's duties to help the Queens with the abundance of kits in the Nursery, and Mosspaw and Saplingpaw seemed to enjoy spending time with each other more than any of the other apprentices.

"I can respect that" Birchkit nodded. There had been a time when he'd been a cat like that, he'd liked being quiet and still, and other cats just didn't seem to bring that, but he'd opened up as he got older, made friends with Kestrelpaw, Jackalpaw and his sister, he was even rubbing along with a few others in the Nursery.
While he wasn't in a position where he wanted this number to expand all that much further, he was glad that his friends had grown around him.

"Well I look forward to chatting with them when they do" He purred. Of course he couldn't really say if he'd like them or not, but as they were Kestrelpaw's kin he was sure that his first impression of them would at least be a positive one, and that was far more likely to lead to a good conversation he would be comfortable with.

Kestrelpaw smiled, hoping her littermates would come around so they could be friends with Birchkit as well. She wanted everyone she liked to be friends, so the thought that Birchkit would be playmates with her littermates made her ecstatic.

He could tell that Kestrelpaw seemed pleased by what he'd said, which made a light rush of happiness go through him too, even though he didn't expressively show it on his face. He liked to see her happy, she had such a graceful way of doing it, almost everything she did though, was done with a sort of clumsy grace.
"So I was wondering..." Not wanting his time with her to end, he began thinking of something he could request that would make her stay, "Have you learned any moves or hunting positions yet, perhaps you could show me?"

This was never something he'd volunteer for unless he was desperate, but he was sure that he wouldn't mind Kestrelpaw showing him.

PatchyFallenstar In reply to sparkeythehamster [2014-05-01 05:54:33 +0000 UTC]

"Yeah!!!" Kestrelpaw's eyes lit up at the mention of some moves, she'd been dying to show someone or go out and practice them some more. "I've learned a bunch, like the Hunting Crouch and some fighting moves, and I'm gonna ask Hazefire to teach me how to climb trees soon!" She blinked, wondering briefly if her mentor would allow her to do that so early in her training or if she'd have to wait a few moons first. "Which one would you like me to teach you?"

sparkeythehamster In reply to PatchyFallenstar [2014-05-01 09:18:40 +0000 UTC]

"How about the hunting crouch?" Birchkit suggested, it sounded like the most useful for an early Apprentice to know, he bent down, trying to mimic her moves, struggling as his gangly limbs got in the way, he was pretty sure he wasn't doing it right.
Tree climbing did sound like an interesting venture though, he hoped that his father would be able to take her out to climb trees soon, it certainly sounded like something that Kestrelpaw would enjoy.

PatchyFallenstar In reply to sparkeythehamster [2014-05-01 23:13:13 +0000 UTC]

"Just like that, you've got it," Kestrelpaw praised as she watched her friend. "Put your body lower, and your tail too...and be more...I dunno, on your paws? You look a little spread out," she giggled, whiskers twitching. She moved closer to Birchkit and used her paws to move his into position. "More like this," she mewed, making sure he was stabilized before letting go.

Birchkit felt a warmness rising to his cheeks as Kestrelpaw moved closer to him, helping him to get into the right position. He let her paws guide him, lost in a cloud of blissful blankness in his head until she moved away again.
He hoped he was less spread out now, as he familiarized himself with the positioning, "what now?" He asked, wondering how exactly you got from here to the prey.

PatchyFallenstar In reply to sparkeythehamster [2014-05-02 20:49:24 +0000 UTC]

"Now, you gotta stalk forward, which basically means to like...move without making sound." Kestrelpaw demonstrated, dropping into the crouch and moving forward silently, paws almost gliding across the ground, her weight shifting in every moment to allow her pawsteps to make no sound. "Like that, see?"

sparkeythehamster In reply to PatchyFallenstar [2014-05-02 21:21:49 +0000 UTC]

Birchkit nodded stiffly, trying not to disturb the position she'd put him into too much. Focusing hard on his footsteps and the position, he tried to move forward as softly as her, occasionally it would work, but every couple of steps he'd step on something making too much noise.
"How do you what to avoid stepping on?" He asked, wincing as he stepped on a particularly loud leaf that would have alerted prey for miles that he was coming.

PatchyFallenstar In reply to sparkeythehamster [2014-05-02 21:34:59 +0000 UTC]

"Well...I guess you gotta kind of look where you're going, for one," she giggled. "There was one time, I stepped on this branch, and like...five birds flew out of a bush nearby. Five!" she shook out her pelt as if clearing herself of the memory.

"But also, you gotta like, put your weight on your paws reeeeeaaaally slowly. Like, almost like you aren't putting any weight at all on it. It takes a lot of practice, trust me. I've fallen on my face enough times."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sparkeythehamster In reply to PatchyFallenstar [2014-05-02 21:38:24 +0000 UTC]

Five? Wow. Well it was good to know that if he made any mistakes in his own early Apprenticehood days that he wouldn't be the first.
He tried again, this time moving slowly - which in his case was very, very slow. Well if this was all it took to be an Apprentice, perhaps it wouldn't be as bad as he'd first thought.
This was certainly easier, he had more time to see where he was going.

"Is this better?" He checked.

"Much better! You're actually doing much better than I did when I first learned," she praised. "One day we'll get to the same level the warriors are on--they can move like mice without being heard. It's amazing to watch, really."

Birchkit tried to imagine his father moving like a mouse and found he was struggling, in all honesty he was struggling to imagine Eagletalon move like that too, his mother perhaps.
"I suppose they all must have trained really hard, it's difficult to imagine ever being able to do that myself, but you already seem to be great at it," and he was impressed, Kestrelpaw seemed to easily be able to glide across the ground, as if her paws weren't touching it at all.

Birchkit smiled, nudging his tail very lightly against hers, still holding his hunting crouch as he moved slowly around, trying to get used to the movement, "I'm sure you will be, I can already see you in the future leading hunting party after hunting party, each that comes back with more prey," he said this with a steady smile on his face, half joking and half serious.

"Deal" Birchkit laughed. He was always grateful for the way Kestrelpaw was able to make light of any situation, she certainly was a good friend to have around.
His movements were still a little stiff, but he was a little more used to the way he needed to move his paws over the ground to avoid making a noise now.

((Okay~ I'll start~))

Birchpaw sighed, rolling his eyes as he directed Springkit to where he'd last seen his sister, the rude little tom didn't even thank him, still, Birchkit supposed he still had a moon to grow up before becoming an Apprentice.
Turning away from his other siblings, he looked around for Kestrelpaw, would she be here to congratulate him? Which reminded him, he should probably find Jackalpaw and Coyotepaw later and congratulate them, but he wanted to see Kestrelpaw first.

An excited wave rippled through him, they were finally Apprentices together, he wanted to see this world she'd described to him, the one that lay beyond the exit to the camp, but he wanted his first glance to be with her.

((ok! thanks))

Kestrelpaw pushed through the crowd of cats, having been cooped up near the back. She was shouting Birchpaw's new name in order to attract his attention. "Birchpaw! Birchpaw, over here!" She squeezed past Nightfall and Falcondash and made her way over to the brown tom, her tail waving excitedly as she neared him.

"Congratulations, Birchpaw!" she mewed as she reached her friend.

"Kestrelpaw" Birchpaw greeted with a smile, beaming internally as he heard her call his new name, although his expression remained neutral to the world. They were Apprentices together now, equals. He shuffled uncomfortably when he remembered the question he'd asked all that time ago about whether he could build his nest next to hers, she'd probably forgotten about it by now, and he didn't want to press and risk looking like a flustered she-cat.

PatchyFallenstar In reply to sparkeythehamster [2014-05-10 06:58:17 +0000 UTC]

"Birchpaw, congratulations again on becoming an apprentice," Kestrelpaw grinned. "I know that Spiderstep will probably take you on a tour of the territory soon, but uh...I already started making up your new nest, if that's okay with you...um, I was wondering if you wanted to help me finish it?" she shuffled on her paws, hoping he'd say yes and not be creeped out by her going ahead and building his nest next to hers. The old nest used to belong to Leapfern, but as the she-cat had just moved into the Warrior's den, it was being unused.

Kestrelpaw had already gathered some new moss and feathers, but she was hoping to grab some flower petals or something to make it extra-cozy for her friend. Even though the promise was a long time ago, and Birchpaw had probably forgotten about it, Kestrelpaw still wanted his nest to be built next to hers.

"Yeah... s-sure," Birchpaw was sure he could feel a blush spreading over his cheeks, so dipped his head away quickly, hoping she wouldn't notice as he led the way to the Apprentice Den. Of course she hadn't actually said anything about building it next to hers, but she'd at least started putting together a nest for him, which at least showed she was keen for him to move into the Den.

"Which one is it?" He asked, looking around at the vast array of nests that lay around the Den, trying to spot one that looked vaguely unfinished. Spotting one that looked like it fit the description, he stepped carefully over the others to reach it. It looked half formed but he could see where the moss and feathers hadn't all been tucked together yet.

Kestrelpaw followed her friend into the den, pointing to the nest she had started to patch up. "It's this one," she mewed, "I've only got it about halfway done, sorry. This one next to it is mine, and I've been using some of the moss from mine to build up yours," she admitted sheepishly.

"Ah right" Birchpaw nodded, dipping his head bashfully, as he began to take some of the spare materials to patch in himself, "It's very nice" he mumbled, giving her a small smile, "I'm sure I'll be very comfortable here."
He closed his mouth again, he was always very chatty around her, well chatty by his standards. But he was very happy, becoming an Apprentice and getting a nest next to his friend's, all in a single day.

"I hope so!" Kestrelpaw grinned. "We can go gather some more moss if you'd want -- I'm sure Hazefire won't mind...I don't know about Spiderstep though. It'd kind of be fun if I was the first one to show you around outside of camp! Even if it's not that far."

"Oh dad won't mind" Birchpaw shrugged, his dad rarely seemed to care about anything, both his parents had been free as birds in bringing him and his siblings up.
He wasn't sure about Spiderstep, but his new mentor seemed like a nice tom, so hopefully he wouldn't get into trouble. "Would we have to go far for the moss?" He asked, unsure exactly what sort of distance Kestrelpaw was talking about.

"Not really. There's a nice patch not too far from here growing on a tree. Maybe a few fox-lengths away? It's not on the other half of the territory if that's what you're thinking," Kestrelpaw grinned, patting down a feather into Birchpaw's half-finished nest.

"I'm sure Spiderstep won't mind then" Birchpaw smiled, after all, a couple of fox-lengths was barely out of camp at all, he was sure they'd be able to get out, collect the moss and get back before anybody had even noticed that they were missing. Part of him still wasn't sure if he was allowed to leave, but that was most likely after moons and moons of being told as a kit that he couldn't.

"We'll be back before you can say MoonClan," Kestrelpaw promised. "Follow me!"

Birchpaw nodded, knowing she hadn't literally meant they'd be back that quickly, but he understood the gesture. He followed her to the Camp exit, hesitating slightly before the tree, before he ducked underneath it.
He blinked, for a moment disappointed and underwhelmed until he saw truly how big the world out here was, he couldn't see any walls or confinements.
"It's so... so big" he mumbled, awestruck.

"I know," Kestrelpaw mrrowed, "I thought the same thing the first time Hazefire took me out here. I thought the camp was big--but the forest is HUGE! And this is only our share of the territory, too." She shook out her coat as she trotted towards the place she knew the moss to grow in abundance. "You should see PebbleClan's territory. They don't have any trees--like, it's so open. I'm surprised half of them haven't been carried away by hawks."

"Really?" Birchpaw had heard that the other territories were different from theirs, but he'd never of imagined it was possible not to have any trees at all, surely that was where all the prey lived, why would anyone live anywhere without them? Surely they'd starve.
Remembering they were here to collect more moss, he looked around, "so where's the place with the moss?" He asked, ready to follow her lead, afraid that he'd get lost out here without a guide.

"Yeah, it's crazy," Kestrelpaw giggled, musing about how odd the other Clans were compared to MoonClan, but perhaps that was just because she was used to the thick cover of trees overhead and foliage around. Kestrelpaw wondered if the other Clans thought MoonClan was weird for the same reason--they just weren't used to it? Probably.

"The moss is right....there," she pointed to a tree where moss seemed to be slowly creeping up around the base. As they rounded a bush and neared it, Kestrelpaw halted for a second, seeing if she could scent any prey. To be able to catch something in front of Birchpaw, and hopefully impress him, maybe even share the kill--that would be wonderful.

To her delight, she scented a mouse, which was the prey she was best at hunting.

"Psst," She whispered to Birchpaw, "can you smell anything?"

Spotting the moss, Birchpaw started to make towards it. His mind had started circulating some pretty strange thoughts, in a way he supposed he was feeling self-conscious, not just because Kestrelpaw was there - although that probably contributed to it. He was dwelling on something Dovekit had said, she'd said he was boring. Of course he didn't care that Dovekit found him boring, she was just as silly as her brother as far as he was concerned, but did his friends find him boring, did Kestrelpaw find him boring.
He supposed the best thing to do would be to ask, but suddenly she was asking him a question, her voice quiet and low.

Scenting the air he concentrated hard, there was a whiff of something, but it certainly wasn't cat, "What is it?" He whispered back, ears flicking for some sort of clue that might help him.
